A proposal to fund chess sets was fully funded by the organization in the amount of $364. DonorsChoose. org is an online charity that makes it easy for educators to fulfill classroom needs. Public school teachers can post classroom project requests on the site; individuals can then donate monies to fund a project that most inspires them. When a proposal reaches its funding goal, DonorsChoose ships the materials to the school. Mr. Vayanos will use the chess set in his dual enrollment Spanish classes. As part of the course, students learn about the cultural importance of the game in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. Carlynton, teachers and administrators have always possessed a sense empathy when it comes to students and there is no better way to be a role model and build character in students they involving them in volunteer projects. This past winter, three young girls in Crafton tragically lost their parents. The family of the victims asked for donations and a fund was started in the schools to collect money for the children. Through the combined collection between all three of the district schools, over $2,500 was raised and presented to the family. In March, two families in the neighborhood of Carnegie lost everything in two separate catastrophic house fires. This time, members of the high school student government decided to take action and pulled together a pasta dinner in just a few short weeks. Posters were made and students pounded the pavement to solicit donations of pasta, sauce, bread, paper products and all the other fixings necessary for a large scale event.
