Digital Skills Lab 8
Digital Skills Lab 8 equips students with essential 21st-century technology skills through a hands-on, integrated approach. Students will develop proficiency in spreadsheet applications by learning to organize, analyze, and visualize data. They will also design and deliver multimedia presentations that incorporate text, images, audio, and video to communicate ideas effectively. The course introduces foundational computer science concepts through event-driven programming, allowing students to create simple, interactive programs and games. In addition, students will explore the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence tools to enhance productivity and creativity. Career exploration and workforce development activities related to STEAM( Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields are woven throughout the curriculum, helping students connect their digital skills to real-world applications.
Audio Engineering 8
Audio Engineering 8 is a hands-on, project-based course that introduces students to the fundamentals of audio engineering and digital sound design using tools like BandLab for Education or Soundtrap. Students explore the science of sound, learn how audio is captured and edited, and gain proficiency in digital audio workstations( DAWs) to create original sound projects. Through units on sound editing, audio storytelling, music production, and real-world audio applications, students will develop technical and creative skills while working independently on Chromebooks. Projects include crafting a personal sonic signature, producing an audio drama, composing an original beat, and completing a final showcase project such as a podcast or commercial. The course also introduces students to career pathways in audio production and emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and digital citizenship throughout the learning experience. and creativity in delivering messages to various audiences. 9-12: Preparing for College and Careers for STEAM
To address the need for robust STEAM instruction, Carlynton School District is updating our 9-12 curriculum and program of studies over the next two years to expand upon our current STEAM courses and opportunities. The District is committed to offering advanced courses and workforce development experiences in computer science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, multimedia production, and engineering. New elective courses are being designed in video production, audio production, and graphic design. Students will learn skills such as podcasting, digital media editing, and animation, preparing them for creative and technical careers. Carlynton is partnering with local industries, colleges, workforce development organizations, and trade schools to create pathways for students interested in STEAM-related careers.
