C ARLYN TON S CH OOL DI STR IC T NE WS arlynton-Montour Athletes are making the grade Early wake up, class, eat, practice, weights, eat, study …. Wait a minute, when do I get some “me time.” Students who partake in athletics often find themselves asking this question. The rigorous schedule of balancing school work and sports often leaves little time for Instagram or Xbox. Students who do manage are those who take advantage of every minute by following a schedule and rarely missing a beat. Those who manage well can often maintain good grades while playing sports and still have time for a social life. At the high school level, these multi-taskers deserve some accolades. A scholar-athlete breakfast was held at the junior-senior high school on May 25 to recognize 109 scholar-athletes in grades 9-12. Thirty eight distinguished honor roll students, 39 high honor roll and 32 honor roll students were honored, identified as maintaining high grades while participating in a sport. Those recognized received a certificate and a t-shirt in addition to enjoying a hot buffet breakfast. Earning special honors were tri-athletes (participating in three sports within the school year) and included senior Marin Exler, juniors Sofia Carrasco, Christopher Harris, Kylee Merscher, Nathanial Wilcox, Janise Williams and Ashleigh Wilson, sophomores Sydney Franchick and Owen Kalimon, and freshmen Gabriel Prepelka and Jenna Williams. Senior Colin Henke and freshman Daniel Schultz were recognized a quad-athletes. Colin was a contributing member of the soccer, tennis, bowling and cross-country teams. Colin is also a member of the marching band. During the school year, Dan played soccer, basketball, baseball and was a crosscountry runner. Junior Natalie Quinn received top honors as a quint-athlete, participating in soccer, swimming, cross-country, track and cheerleading. She is also a member of the band. Natalie says she maintains this busy schedule by carefully planning out each week and allowing enough time to study or read every evening. Scholar athletes of the year were also honored. Seniors Tarik Isak and Nicole Stengel were name to this elite list, acknowledged for maintaining high grades while participating in multiple sports. Junior Natalie Quinn was presented with a plaque during the ScholarAthlete Breakfast for maintaining high grades while participating in five sports in the 2015-2016 school year. Tri-athlete Gabe Prepelka, a freshman, was recognized at the year-end Scholar-Athlete Breakfast held in the high school cafeteria. 2015-2016 Scholar Athletes 12th Grade 11th Grade 10th Grade Dean Bartins Hannah Bogats Elizabeth Behage Stormy Bartins Stephanie Bonifield Nathan Bickus Cameron Bogats Sofia Carrasco Robert Chapman Emmanuell Burton Hannah Diulus David Creely Isiah Canton Stuart Dougherty Hunter Crown Gina Carini Storm Figura Dominic Darenkamp Erin Connor Sage Figura Giona Darenkamp Cristy Crawshaw Will Ford Eliana Davis Madison Crown Christopher Harris Tashe-Ann Earle Ryan Easterling Ian Kobistek Blair Finlay Marin Exler Yaryna Korenovska Sydney Franchick Sydney Fritchman Kassi Longstreth Ian Gallagher Abigail Greiner Kylee Merscher Owen Kalimon Amanda Griffin Luke Phillips Irena Lutsiv Tyler Harding Natalie Quinn Kevin MacMurdo Colin Henke Andrea Rivera Sydney Mollica Alexandria Hilarzewski Skyler Sevacko Riley Post Megan Howells Abbie Snizik Shayna Prahl Tarik Isak Diamond Thomas Nathan Robb Myo Min Khant Morgan Vonada Arieona Smith-Purdue Britney Kowal Nathanial Wilcox Hannah Stack Amanda Martin Ashleigh Wilson Piper Stevens Brianna Oddi Logan Witwicki Alexis Stewart Hannah Phillips Janise Williams Jessica Vogliano Nicole Rave Gabriel Wilcox Faith Reigle Holly Rodriguez Monique Salmon Erin Sheariss Nicole Stengel 42 Carlynton-Montour 9th Grade Phoebe Appel Molly Badger Bryce Bogats Jasmine Caldwell Julie Carothers Rory Dougherty Kayla Glumac Kira Gossad Airys Gould Maclaine Greiner Morgan Harding David Holderbaum Isabel Irwin Samuel Knabel Katherine Kozy Natalie Latta Nathan Latta Patricia Maloy Dameus Moore Massimo Notaro Gabriel Prepelka Julia Roussos Lacy Rybacki Madison Samangy Claire Schriver Daniel Schultz Mason Small Maria Smereka Elias Ward Andrew Weimer Jenna Williams
