Big Macs’ Academic Team Enjoys Success
The Canon-McMillan High School
Academic team enjoyed a successful
year, culminating with winning the
championship of the 25th annual
Intermediate Unit 1 competition.
The Big Macs’ team competes in the
Southwestern Academic League, along
with 11 other local schools. This year,
Canon-Mac won first place in its division
and was invited to the IU 1 Academic
Competition.
The competition was held April 1 at
Waynesburg University. The contest
is a double-elimination tournament,
challenging the top teams from four
academic leagues in Washington,
Greene, and Fayette counties with
questions in the areas of American and
World History, Literature, Science, and
Current Events.
Canon-McMillan matched wits with
teams from Bentworth, Connellsville, and
Uniontown.
As the winner, the Canon-McMillan
team earned the opportunity to
represent IU#1 in the Pennsylvania State
Academic Competition. The event, hosted
by State Representative John Lawrence
and sponsored by the Pennsylvania State
This year’s IU team consisted of seniors:
Education Association, took place April
Hannah Bockius, Brant Purcell, Samuel
26 in the chambers of the state House of
Teyssier, and Grant Zeszutek; juniors:
Representatives in Harrisburg.

“Coins for a Cause”
Students at Muse Elementary School raised $3,187.52 during its Dr. Seuss-Read
Across America Week earlier this year. The “Coins for a Cause” fundraiser featured
students dressing daily in Dr. Seuss-themed outfits. The coins were donated to the
Frank Sarris Public Library.
