Streamline the Present . The present is our time to live and at the same time create our evolving history . We evaluated how our local government was running and begin to enhance and establish processes and procedures for optimal efficiency and growth . Our evaluations have resulted in codification of general and zoning ordinances to reduce inconsistencies , vacant property registration to track properties and prevent blight . The hiring of a director of economic development to head up our development efforts , resulting in a Facade Program , new website , vacant buildings being purchased and renovated . Five new business opened in 2021 . The purchase of parking kiosk machines due to repair costs of aging parking meters . We will continuously evaluate , improve our processes and procedures for optimal efficiency and growth .
Plan for the Future . The future can be scary . For others , that unknown is a cause for excitement rather than fear . We are EXCITED about three future projects in Canonsburg . The first being a 90 space Lou Bell Drive Parking Lot . Second , Public Works Facility Upgrades . Third , Town Park Trails & Pool House upgrades . The goal is to get the projects started this year .
Also new this year is the start of the Junior Council Person Program . The program provides youth in our community with an opportunity to get engaged in borough government and develop leadership skills . It also allows borough council to serve as mentors to students who will be future leaders in our community .
Planning for the future takes place in the present . Today is the tomorrow you prepared for yesterday . As you reflect on your own life , I challenge you , be mindful to honor those who have gone before you , to celebrate the small wins at the present time , and to embrace plans for a BRITE future .
