On March 13 , the Canon-Mac Girls Wrestling team competed at the Sanction PA State Championships finishing 3rd in the State , out of 116 teams !

W omen ’ s wrestling has been a

recognized Olympic sport since 2004 when it was introduced at the Athens Games . The USA managed to win two medals in the games , indicating that there was already a strong interest in the sport for women .
This year it was introduced as a club sport at Canon-McMillan and drew an impressive amount of interest . The team started practicing the second week of November , and 21 girls signed up to attend the practices and potentially become members of the team . After giving the sport a try , 18 girls decided to compete on the team .
Although boy ’ s wrestling is a traditional sport at Canon-McMillan with a team that is a powerhouse in the state , girl ’ s wrestling has not yet met Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletics Association ( PIAA ) criteria to be a sanctioned sport in schools . Canon-Mac was the 19th school in Pennsylvania to add it as a club sport , and there must be at least 100
