It featured the Washington County Board of Commissioners’ Annual Economic Development Report and discussion. Washington County, as a state leader in energy production and industrial/ commercial development, continues to maintain its strong position among southwestern PA counties in terms of economic growth and job creation. To emphasize this growth, the Washington County Board of Commissioners joined with nearly 400 Washington County business leaders to highlight 107 economic development projects that accounted for nearly $514 million in capital investment in Washington County during the past year. These projects were also complemented by over $6.9 million in additional investments the county made in 2019 through the Washington County Local Share Account (LSA), a fund capitalized by gaming revenues. The LSA investments are being leveraged by an additional $26.5 million in public and private resources. In addition, the county’s manufacturing sector announced major expansions, further solidifying the county’s positive economic position. “Washington County continues to maintain a leadership position in both our region and state in creating new economic growth, new job opportunities and countywide expansion,” said Diana Irey Vaughan, Chairman of the Washington County Board of Commissioners. “In 2019, our public and private partners announced $513,872,181 in new business investment and an additional 930 created/retained jobs in Washington County. This tremendous growth in business investment and job creation was driven by numerous sectors of our economy including energy, tourism, construction, manufacturing and infrastructure. We are proud of these successes, especially in creating new job opportunities for our residents.” CANON-MAC ❘ SPRING 2020 9
