Get to Know Canon-McMillan School District ’ s New Elementary Principals

This school year , Canon-McMillan School District welcomed two new principals at its elementary schools : Robert Miele at South Central Elementary and Matt Wolfe at Borland Manor Elementary .

Matt Wolfe brings extensive experience from the classroom , administration , and nonprofit education sectors . He began his career as a classroom teacher for third to sixth grades in the Southeastern Greene , Cherry Creek and Culpeper County school districts .
At the EdVenture Group , a nonprofit in Morgantown , West Virginia , Wolfe worked as an education manager . He designed toolkits and facilitated professional development workshops on design thinking , project-based learning , experiential education , entrepreneurship education and makerspaces . He also led youth leadership workshops focusing on leadership development and community engagement .
“[ My job at EdVenture Group ] gave me an opportunity to look at the big picture ,” Wolfe said . “ I led workshops like STEM initiatives , makerspaces and entrepreneurial education , with a hands-on approach to help get districts involved , engaged and more energized .”
Missing the school environment , Wolfe returned to the building setting as assistant principal at Claysville Elementary in 2019 , later serving as principal at both Claysville Elementary and Joe Walker Elementary since 2021 .
“ As a leader , being humble , resilient , calm and aware of your surroundings really helps the staff flourish and , in turn , helps our students grow ,” Wolfe said . Outside of work , Wolfe enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and daughter . He is also proud of his volunteer work with Team River Runner , an organization that supports veterans through whitewater kayaking , providing outdoor opportunities to help them recover from mental and physical wounds by fostering community and adventure .
Wolfe ’ s top priorities include listening to staff , families and students to build relationships that will help the school grow while appreciating the rich tradition already in place .
“ It ' s important for me to continue the excellent work that the staff has achieved over the years . Borland Manor has a proud tradition of excellence , and I am committed to furthering the growth that has already been established ,” Wolfe said . “ Building strong relationships with teachers , staff , students and the community will be a priority to ensure continued student success . My goal is to foster academic excellence , social-emotional wellbeing and a love for lifelong learning in our students .”
