When we think of fall we often think of pumpkin spice flavors hitting the menus , haunted houses , and Halloween . The fall weather is perfect for enjoying the scenery of changing leaves or roasting a marshmallow over the fire . Although , there is much to enjoy in fall there are also safety tips about which the North Strabane Township Police Department would like to remind you .

Fire Safety : Fires can be utilized to cook food or even to stay warm on a chilly day . However , fires can also be dangerous if proper safety precautions are not taken . North Strabane Township has a well-trained and knowledgeable fire department , but if you follow the steps below you can prevent the risk of an emergency in which the fire department would need to respond .
• In the fall we are often clearing our yards of limbs and branches . If you are choosing to dispose of such matters through burning ensure you utilize a proper burning receptacle to keep the fire contained . Also , ensure the fire is constantly being attended .
• Fall is also a great time to have campfires on cool nights . Be sure to always have the fire attended and be cognizant of children and animals who may be around the fire . Ensure your guests know the fire is for recreational use such as cooking hotdogs and marshmallows and not for the disposal of potential hazardous items .
• Lastly , keep a water source close to any fire in case the fire would begin to spread or become out of control .

Tree Stand Safety : To remember tree stand safety utilize the acronym STEPS . S- Safety harness or belt T- Tree stand maintenance E- Evaluate your stand site P- Partners and plans S- Signals ( Pennsylvania Game Commission , n . d .).
General Hunting Tips :
• Be sure you are able to identify what you are shooting at as legal game . Do not shoot merely based on sounds or movement .
• Maintain a safe zone of fire from other hunters . Have 25 to 40 yards between you and other hunters and stay where you are in sight of each other
