Canonsburg Middle School to Become Canon-McMillan Middle School in January 2023

Canonsburg Middle School is slated to become the Canon- McMillan Middle School this January . Dr . Taranto , Middle School Principal , shared , " It is an exciting year for the middle school students with the planned opening of the new middle school on January 9 , 2023 . We have a transition plan in place that will help everyone get acclimated to the new school ."

CMMS Transition Plan is as follows :
• Team building tours will take place the week of December 19th . Teams will be bused to the new building for students to tour the building and walk their new room numbers according to their existing schedules .
• Students will have a two-week winter break . This will allow District staff on the second week of the student break to finalize the building for the first student day .

• The middle school Open-House will be held in February to allow parents to see the new facility first-hand . Seventh grade will be on February 15th and the eighth grade will be on February 16th . anon-Mac CANON-MAC SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

Extended School Year ( ESY ) Students Enjoyed Camp STAR and Camp LIFT

Camp LIFT stands for Learning is Fun Together and Camp STAR stands for Second Transition and Academic Readiness . These camps are both a part of Canon-McMillan ’ s Extended School Year ( ESY ) program , which assists students with special needs during the summer months . Each activity teaches these students valuable lessons that they can apply to their everyday lives .

Staff members Ms . Dittmar and Ms . Moniodes said , “ During the L . I . F . T .
Extended School Year , we were fortunate enough to take the students on a few outings in our area ! The trips we took to Grandpa Joe ’ s , therapeutic horseback riding , and Mingo Creek Park were all great learning experiences for the students . Students were able to have fun while applying what we learned in the classroom to a real world experience !”
Staff member Mr . Schugg said , “ We had a lot of great outings and experiences in STAR at CMHS ! We went to Shop n Save to purchase ingredients to make brunch and two other recipes ( Fruit Boats and Turkey Clubs ), made ice cream in a shake bag , did a Zoo in the Classroom field trip with Mrs . Giest , mulched the trees at the rear entrance of the high school at the guidance loop , went to Round Hill Farm for a picnic and animal education , made brunch , painted Bob Ross Rainbow paintings , and ended the ESY with a picnic at Cross Creek Park near the lake . We also invited the families to the cafeteria for an ice cream social on the last day . A LOT !”
