NSTMA SEWER SYSTEM The NSTMA Sanitary Sewer System serves roughly 5,500 customers in the Township. The Sanitary Sewer System consists of ten (10) pumping stations and one (1) 99,000 gallons per day sewage treatment plant. NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY TOWNSHIP COMPREHENSIVE SEWER PROJECT NSTMA, has authorized the final phase of the Linden Creek Watershed Sewer System to alleviate the pollution problems in Little Chartiers Creek and to preserve the natural integrity of this high quality trout stream. Currently, all unsewered areas adjacent to Linden Creek utilize some type of on-lot sewage system (septic tank, leach field / drain field, or sand mound). A high percentage of these on-lot systems are malfunctioning and contributing to the pollution of the Linden Creek watershed. The watershed has an on-lot failure rate of 70-90 percent. The proposed gravity sewers would eliminate the majority of these on-lot septic systems and also be capable of supporting future growth in all areas of the watershed. NSTMA, in compliance with the Township’s Act 537 Plan and Federal Clean Streams regulations, authorized the construction of these projects. The gravity sewer extensions will discharge into existing gravity sewers in the Township, which convey sewage into NSTMA’s Route 19 Pump Station for treatment at the Canonsburg Houston Joint Authority (CHJA) Wastewater Treatment Plant. NSTMA, with the assistance of the Township, has taken advantage of low interest rates in 2014 through the issuance of $8,800,000 in revenue bonds and has re-financed these bonds in 2019 for a substantial savings to our residents to fund the current and future sanitary sewer projects listed below. CURRENT SANITARY SEWER PROJECTS n Linnwood Road Sewer Extension Project: The Linnwood Road Sewer Extension Project is located along Linnwood Road from the intersection of Route 519 to the intersection of Christy Road. The service area will initially include 25 homes/businesses at an estimated cost of $1,036,000. Construction started in August 2017 and the sewers were completed in December 2017. n Christy Road Sewer Extension Project: The Christy Road Sewer Extension Project is located along Christy Road from the 44 NORTH STRABANE intersection of Route 519 to the intersection of Linnwood Road. The service area will initially include 26 homes/ businesses at an estimated cost of $1,086,000. Construction started in November 2017 and the sewers were completed in June 2018. n Mansfield Road Sewer Extension Project: The Mansfield Road Sewer Extension Project is located along Brehm and Mansfield Roads from the intersection of Linnwood Road to the intersection of Route 19. The service area will initially serve 47 homes/businesses at an estimated cost of $1,667,000. Construction started in February 2019 and the sewers are scheduled to be completed in September 2019. FUTURE SANITARY SEWER PROJECTS n Christy/Linn Road Sewer Extension Project: The Christy/Linn Road Sewer Extension Project is located along Christy/Linnwood Road in the upper portions of Christy/ Linnwood Road areas. The service area will initially include 55 homes/businesses at an estimated cost of $1,400,000. The scope of this project will be based on the availability of residual bond funds. n 84 Pump Station/Forcemain Sewer Project: The 84 Pump Station and Forcemain Sewer Project is located along Route 136 in the Township. This project will replace the existing sewage treatment plant with a pump station and forcemain. This project will serve the entire 84 Watershed area at an estimated cost of $900,000. The design and permitting for this project is currently under way and the scope of this project will also be based on the availability of residual bond funds. n Racetrack Road Siphon Upgrade Project: The Racetrack Road Siphon Upgrade Project is located along Racetrack Road. This siphon discharges into the CHJA Interceptor for treatment at the CHJA Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Racetrack Road Siphon Upgrade Project will replace the existing undersized siphon and provide for additional capacity in the service area. The project will serve the entire Racetrack Road Watershed area at an estimated cost of $575,000. The design and permitting for this project is currently underway, with construction to start in the Summer of 2020.
