After her term as president she plans to work to mentor other professionals to become leaders in School Business. Canon-McMillan General English Course Reinstated by NCAA In the spring of 2017 school year, the NCAA Eligibility Center decided to re-evaluate some of the courses within the Canon-McMillan list of approved NCAA courses. This list, determined by the NCAA, is made up of courses that the NCAA will accept as prospective student athletes work to fulfill the 16-core credit requirement. Any classes not on the list are not approved by the NCAA and, therefore, cannot be used to fulfill eligibility requirements as student-athletes strive to participate in collegiate athletics. The NCAA decided to not include our General English courses for grades 9-12 as a result of their evaluation. This situation has added stress to both our Guidance and English Departments as they have been working hard to keep every potential NCAA student-athlete on track to achieve scholarship level opportunities and participate in NCAA athletics. This past spring, the English department, led by Lori Keller and now Tera Brownlee, did an outstanding job of providing the NCAA with the necessary materials including curriculum, flow chart and benchmarks. These efforts have paid off as the NCAA has approved our General English curriculum for all grades 9-12. Canon-McMillan School District is very appreciative of the effort made by our English department to have these courses reinstated. Our students will have more opportunities because of these results.
