CANONSBURG LAKE
EAGLES HAVE ARRIVED
The Eagles have laid their eggs, two which
have recently hatched and are being fed daily
by their mother and father. The conservation
officer for the lake asks that you refrain
from getting too close to the eaglets that
are beginning to fledge from their nest, as
disturbing them could do them harm. The
best location to observe the birds is from the
parking lot off of McDowell Lane.
Please check out Canonsburg Lake
Eagles on Facebook, where numerous
photos of the Eagles have been posted. Visit
savecanonsburglake.org to help preserve this
community treasure for future generations.
HILBERT ATTENDS
LONDON SOCCER CAMP
Alex Hilbert, a sophomore at Canon
McMillan High School spent four weeks in
London, two of which were at the Chelsea
Foundation’s Premiere League Goalkeeper
Football (Soccer) Camp. The camp was
comprised of 97 attendees from 35 countries,
with Hilbert being just one of three
participants representing the United States.
Hilbert was proud to represent Pittsburgh
and the United States at the camp. He has
trained with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’
former goalkeeper and current goalkeeper
coach, Hunter Gilstrap since he was 10 years
old. He currently is a goalkeeper for the
Pittsburgh Football Club.
Bring along your camera gear and enjoy
this unique experience!
Canonsburg Lake has been known for
decades to residents of Southwestern
Pennsylvania who enjoy fishing, boating,
ice skating, or just as a place to observe
the tranquility of nature. The Lake is also
a versatile resource for our region’s bird
watchers, as the Lake enjoys a wide range of
species from Blue Herons to Bald Eagles.
Recently, the popularity of the Lake has
grown because bald eagles have nested in
one of the large pine trees along the shore
line near the Little Lake Theater. This unique
gift is attracting many visitors to the lake at
a time when fund raising efforts to improve
and restore the Lake must escalate.
