4TH ANNUAL SCHEUERMANN ’ S DISEASE FUNDRAISER
The Scheuermann ’ s Disease Fund will hold its 4th Annual Fundraiser on Sunday , Oct . 15 , from 12:30 - 4 p . m . at the Alpine Club . Tickets are $ 10 / person and kids under 12 are free .
The event will include a buffet , drinks , cash bar , a display explaining the origin , diagnosis and forms of treatment for Scheuermann ’ s Disease , face painting , caricature artist , photo booth , silent auction of sports memorabilia , Chinese auction , 50 / 50 , kids corner and shaved ice truck .

Scheuermann ’ s Disease ( also known as juvenile kyphosis ) is characterized by uneven growth in the vertebrae , causing them to form a wedge-shape . Typical spines have natural curves of 20 to 40 degrees . People with steeper curves — from 40 to 45 degrees — are said to suffer from kyphosis . Scheuermann ’ s Disease takes kyphosis to the extreme : sufferers have spinal curvatures of up to 75 degrees .

With many , many different raffle baskets to try for , chances are you will go home with something terrific and there ’ s something for everyone with all of the craft and vendor deals . Two bands will perform on our stage located on Grant Street , for your listening pleasure . And the kids will enjoy the day as well - fun activity area with great games - all for a donation of $ 5 .
Thanks to the amazing generosity of our members , business partners , and vendors , every dollar that is raised will go towards supporting mission and ministry work in our community and beyond . From children ’ s and student ministry , outreach mission work in McDonald and surrounding areas , Heartline Ministries in Haiti , and Operation Christmas Child worldwide , rest assured that God will be glorified through this festival .
HAS CANONSBURG LAKE BEEN SAVED ?
The short answer to this question is , “ Yes .” The dam has been stabilized and initial steps have been completed toward restoring Canonsburg Lake . In September 2016 , the first phase construction activities were completed : Trees were cleared , an access road from McDowell Lane to the sediment catchment area was installed , a weir ( submerged rock structure ) was installed and sediment was removed from within the sediment catchment area .
The access road provides access to the sediment catchment area , which is located at the upstream end of the lake near Washington Road , where a large amount of sediment and debris is carried into Canonsburg Lake by Little Chartiers Creek . This access road will allow the inflow of debris and sediment to be monitored more closely , as well as provide access for future maintenance of the sediment catchment area .
Approximately 4,500 cubic yards of sediment were removed from the sediment collection area . Trees located within the lake were cleared from the future sediment collection area as well as stumps and floating debris . By removing the trees from this area , the inflow of debris into Canonsburg Lake can be monitored more closely and addressed proactively .
