ith mixed emotions I am writing my last article for the “IN Community”
magazine. The past 14 years I have had the privilege of serving you
as an elected official here in Brentwood. My volunteer service started
in 1974 when I joined the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Company where I have held
many positions. While in the Fire Company I became one of the original founding
members of Brentwood EMS where I served as the first director as an EMT. I
was an active member at Moore School PTA Events, a Brentwood Band Parent
that included two Florida Trips under my belt driving the equipment truck for
the Band. I am involved with the July 4th Committee, the 5K Race Committee,
Historical Society, Brentwood Business Association, Brentwood VFW/Post Riders
and Brentwood Cares. I am not looking for praise; I have always been an advocate
for volunteerism and just wanted to point out that you do not have to run for
Council or become Mayor to get involved with the Brentwood Community. I’m
proud to say over half my life has been involved in our community of Brentwood.
It has made my life richer and fuller being able to meet those that helped make
those organizations what they are today. I frown upon someone that states
“Brentwood is going downhill.” I just guess, those are the people who do not get
out there to volunteer. There are great things happening right now in Brentwood
and this is primarily due to the people in Brentwood who get involved and
volunteer. However, there is always a need for more!
I have met a lot of inspiring individuals and have had the opportunity to work
with some amazing people. I will miss the working relationships I have had with
our School District Administrators, School Directors & Staff. The relationships
that were built between our other surrounding Boroughs, State Representatives,
and Senators will always be special to me. I can’t say enough about our hard
working Borough employees from the Police Department to our Summer
Employees. They are all true dedicated professionals who demonstrate by their
actions that this is more than a “paycheck” to them. I thank you all for your
dedication to this great Borough.
One thing I will not miss is the numerous evening meetings I have attended.
I will still show up from time to time, but at least I can pick and choose
which meetings to attend. I’m not going anywhere. I will still be involved in
Brentwood. Public service and volunteering is a calling and it is in my blood.
So, how will I spend some of my newly found free time? More time with family
and working on my golf game. (which some of you know needs a lot of work!)
Have a safe and Happy Holiday!
Thanks for the Memories!
