Around Brentwood
Balancing Progress and Fiscal Responsibility
For the past nine years, Brentwood Borough has done something rare in local government— maintained services, expanded programs, and completed millions in capital improvements without raising property taxes. Even through a global pandemic and rising costs, careful planning and fiscal discipline have kept the Borough strong.
The Reality of Rising Costs
Since 2016, prices for essentials have surged: gas is up 71 %, asphalt 50 %, and police vehicles 58 %. Yet, one mill of property tax generates only 4 % more revenue today than it did nine years ago.
Looking Ahead
Continuing without an adjustment would mean cutting services, delaying maintenance, and risking the progress Brentwood has made. To remain responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, Borough Council will consider a modest tax increase in 2026— alongside a new Stormwater Fee that will fund state and federal mandates more fairly and cost-effectively than a tax increase alone.
Brentwood has thrived by doing more with less. As we plan for the future, the goal isn’ t to avoid tax increases forever— it’ s to make smart, sustainable decisions that keep our community safe, vibrant, and strong.
