Baldwin Borough officially named the Dek Hockey Rink at Elm Leaf Park “ Slug ’ s Deck ” after fallen McKeesport officer , Sean Sluganski . Officer Sluganski grew up in Baldwin Borough , close to Elm Leaf Park , and played dek hockey at the park throughout his childhood .
On August 9 , 2023 , a dedication ceremony was held to unveil the new signage . Baldwin Borough Police Chief Tony Cortazzo spoke at the ceremony and Council President John Egger unveiled the new signage . Members of the Sluganski family were in attendance as well as members of the Baldwin Borough Council , Administration staff , neighbors , friends , family and coworkers of Officer Sluganski . It was a beautiful evening to celebrate the life of Officer Sluganski and to dedicate this lasting tribute to his memory .
TOUCH-A-TRUCK !
Baldwin Borough Public Library held its 7th Annual Touch-a-Truck event on September 16th at the Baldwin Borough Building . The sun was shining and the weather was absolutely perfect for a day of hands-on activities .
The parking lot was full of trucks of all types and sizes from McGann and Chester Towing , Michael Brothers , Wish 99.7 , Waste Management , Baldwin Whitehall School District Fab Lab , South Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company , Baldwin Emergency Medical Services , and Baldwin Borough Department of Public Works . From cranes , to snow plows , fire trucks and ambulances , there was something for everyone !
South Hills Interfaith Movement ( SHIM ), Baldwin Highlander Marching Band , Girl Scouts , Baldwin Historical Society , Baldwin Kiwanis Club , Baldwin Borough Police Department , PGH Party Creations , and Hoff ’ s Landscaping were also in attendance , providing fun activities and giveaways .
Touch-a-Truck is not only a great time for kids of all ages , but it ’ s also a core fundraiser for the Library , which provides numerous programs for our community . It is a great day for kids to get up close to their favorite machines all while helping an important asset to our community !
