FALL LEAF COLLECTION
BEGINS: Monday October 28, 2019
ENDS:
Friday December 6, 2019
As you begin to read this, the warm summer sunshine is
now just a distant memory, as the leaves begin to fall and a
hint of a winter chill begins to move through our region. Waste
Management, the Boroughs waste hauler, again this year will be
providing curbside pick-up of your leaf and yard waste materials
beginning on Monday, October 28, until Friday December 6, 2019.
This curb side pick-up will be the same day as your trash pick-up;
however, it will be at a different time that day since they are picked
up by a different truck. Residents must use only Bio-Degradable
Leaf and Lawn type bags, and place them along the curb a few
feet away from your regular garbage receptacle. These bags can be
purchased at your local home improvement store. Leaf and yard
waste materials will not be picked up if placed out in a plastic bag
or other type of container during this program period.
*(Grass clippings, dirt, and larger tree limbs are not
permitted for this program).
Please do not rake or blow leaves onto the street. Baldwin
Borough residents are reminded to refrain from raking or blowing
leaf and yard waste out into public streets and roadways.
Leaves in the street often end up in and around borough storm
drains, blocking and obstructing the catch basin openings, which
often times can result into additional downstream water runoff
and flooding issues. This can cause complications in the winter
as well, particularly if the leaves cluster and then freeze in the
drains, again not allowing catch basins to work properly, which
can allow for potential ice buildup along that area. And ultimately,
this becomes an even larger maintenance issue for pipe clogging
and flooding concerns when the Spring rains arrive. Keeping catch
basins clean, open and unobstructed, is part of the Borough’s
regulatory MS4 requirement and initiative.
