ATTENTION 2023 BHS GRADUATES rentwood Borough SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

As part of a federally mandated process to monitor student progress toward achieving post-high school goals , Brentwood High School is participating in the My Plan 4 Success project offered in conjunction with the PA Department of Education to a subgroup of 2023 graduates . Last year right before graduation from high school several students were interviewed and asked about their plans for the future in terms of post-secondary education , training , and independent living . These students were also asked about the classes and accommodations they received while in high school .
The second part of this process entails a post school follow up survey to get information from previous graduates about if they have accomplished the goals they had set for themselves . Graduates who participated in the survey in June 2023 will be receiving an automated email and text from myplan4success . org containing instructions and a unique link to complete the post survey . Texts will be sent from the following telephone number : 717-844-9768 and are solely dedicated to these push notifications . Students were asked to provide another primary contact when they were originally interviewed in June 2023 , and students typically chose a parent in this role . Primary contacts will also be receiving an automated email and text from the same address telling them that their student has been asked to complete the post survey . This message also asks the contact to remind the student to complete the survey . These notifications are due to be sent to students and primary contacts in June and July and students are asked to complete the survey by September 25 , 2024 .
The information collected in these surveys provides the district with valuable information about the effectiveness of their programs in helping students to achieve goals after graduation from high school .
BRENTWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT TO RE-LOCATE ALL ELEMENTARY ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE SERVICES IN MOORE ELEMENTARY FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR .
Over the course of the last 10 school years , Brentwood has seen a steady increase of students enrolling into Brentwood schools needing English as a Second Language services as part of their typical school day . The District currently serves almost 60 students at the elementary level ( 37 students at Elroy Elementary and 21 at Moore Elementary ) and 57 at the Middle / High School level . Our students and their families speak 18 different languages and dialects , and many are starting school in Brentwood as newcomers to the United States .
In the past , the district has had one full time ESL teacher at Moore , 1 full time teacher at Elroy Elementary , and 1 full time teacher at Brentwood Middle / High School . The current structure allows for one staff member per elementary building and one at the middle / high school . There is little flexibility that can occur within that structure and so a restructuring recommendation was presented to the Board of School Directors on April 15 , 2024 . The recommendation was to consolidate the elementary programming and host the ESL program at Moore Elementary which will allow redistribution of staffing and resources in a more equitable manner between the elementary and secondary levels .
The positive outcomes for this restructuring include balancing overall class sizes and ESL class sizes , providing more intensive supports for newcomers , and limiting the overall impact on the school district ’ s budget .
In the early summer months , the district plans on inviting parents and community resettlement organizations to a meeting at Moore Elementary to explain the upcoming change . Tours of Moore Elementary will be offered to students and their families who will be coming to Moore from Elroy .
