To Save the Pool or To Close the Pool …. that is the question!
Find out the answers at a Brentwood Community Meeting, Wednesday, June 27th at 7:00 PM at the Brentwood Borough Building.
The Borough of Brentwood had originally put the pool repairs out for bid in 2017. The low bid came in close to $ 2 million dollars( OUCH!). Council revised the scope of the repairs and the estimates came in around $ 600,000- $ 700,000. These did not include the bath house. In 2018 an architectural analysis of the Bath House was performed which resulted in serious news about the structural integrity of the Bath House. Temporary shoring was installed to permit the pool to open in 2018. However, the cost to repair the bath house was just as disturbing. Over $ 700,000 to renovate the bath house. The cost to relocate and build a new bath house was estimated at $ 600,000.

Faced with this $ 1.2 million to $ 1.4 million price tag Borough officials commissioned the Borough Architect and Engineer to develop some renderings, cost estimates and options associated with the repairs to the Brentwood Pool and Bath House. This additional costs added to the $ 6 million cost associated with a new Borough Building has garnished some questions as to the affordability of repairing and maintaining a Community Pool.
• Would the residents of Brentwood accept a tax increase to keep their pool if required?
• Should the pool be closed up and replaced with some kind of open space that can be used year round rather than 3 months of the year?
• Would Brentwood residents actually prefer to attend a neighboring pool( Baldwin, South Park Wave Pool, Sandcastle, etc.)
• Would Brentwood residents be ok to opening the pool to non-residents?
• Should the Pool be closed in 2019 to permit contractors to make all of the necessary improvements?
