Everyone has noticed that the cost of mostly all goods and services has increased since the COVID pandemic disrupted supply chains worldwide in 2020 . Baldwin Borough has not been immune to these inflated costs . Despite this challenge , the Borough ’ s Administration has worked hard to control operating expenses and has managed to keep the tax millage rate unchanged since 2019 . Unfortunately , increased costs in the garbage & recycling industry , along with rising pension and healthcare costs , makes the current millage rate unsustainable . In December 2023 , Borough Council unanimously approved a 1.25 millage increase , bringing the Real Estate Tax Millage rate for 2024 to 8.03 mills . This tax increase , and a breakdown of the rising expenditures behind it , were discussed at the public budget meetings held in November . In the following pages , you will find a graphic illustrating how each dollar of your tax money is spent , which I hope you find helpful .
I am excited to finally be able to announce that Baldwin Pool will be receiving much needed repairs this Summer . The Pool has been fortunate to make it this long with the aging pipes , pumps and deteriorating concrete that have been limping along the last few years . We have also had overwhelming feedback from the community asking for the Borough to repair the rough cement bottom and make the pool more easily accessible . The Borough lessened the tax burden by obtaining $ 700,000 in grant money from the PA Department of Community Economic Development ( DCED ), the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County ( RAAC ), and the Commonwealth Financing Authority ( CFA ) which will help fund the repairs . Once final drawings are received from the Borough ’ s engineers , we will post them for the public to take a look at both at the Borough Building and on our website www . baldwinborough . org .
Since the Pool will be closed for renovations this Summer , our neighbors in Brentwood Borough have been kind enough to allow Baldwin Borough residents to purchase a pass to their pool at their resident rate . Baldwin Pool offered the same to Brentwood residents a few years ago when their pool was also closed for renovations , so we appreciate the reciprocity and the community spirit . It ’ s great to know that we can help each other out and come together when needed . Information regarding the purchase of pool passes for Brentwood Pool can be found at https :// brentwoodpa . gov / parksandrecreation . Proof of residency will be required to purchase a pass or daily admission .
Our Recreation and Events Director has been working hard to plan some amazing events for this Spring and Summer , including an Easter Egg Hunt on March 23rd and Community Day which will be Saturday , June 8th . More details on the events are in this magazine and will be posted to our Facebook page , as well as the Borough ’ s website . We hope that you get out and enjoy all that Baldwin Borough has to offer !
