Other ongoing projects include a new and improved Borough Building, with an anticipated completion date of July 2020. The Borough continues to invest in and prepare for the future, and we continue to learn and grow from taking on these major projects and doing a majority of the engineering and project management in-house in order to save on costs and stretch those dollars to include as many projects as we can. Thank you all for your cooperation as we continue to improve the Borough of Brentwood. Vitali Alexandrov Public Works Director Successful Sidewalk Restoration Program Continues Brentwood Borough is committed to ensuring that residents can safely and efficiently utilize local sidewalk infrastructure to reach our shops, schools, and transit stops. In recognition of the often-prohibitive price of concrete rehabilitation, our municipality sponsors a Shared Cost Sidewalk Restoration Program. Through the competitive bidding process, the Borough attains the services of a single contractor to complete sidewalk repairs at a discounted bulk unit price. Residents can also apply to receive matching funds to cover one-half of the cost of all labor and materials associated with the reconstruction of defective slabs. In 2020, sidewalk improvements will take place along Van Wyck Avenue, Woodrow Avenue, and Hillman Street. The Borough also recognizes that although its sidewalk system is extensive, it remains incomplete. 46 BRENTWOOD-BALDWIN-WHITEHALL The presence of such gaps creates a safety hazard by forcing pedestrians to comingle with vehicular traffic for a portion of their journey. Based on a 2019 amendment to the terms of the program, Brentwood has budgeted funds to eliminate system breaks on the targeted streets. To ensure that we can attain the best cost for our residents, the Borough seeks to attain bids prior to the peak of construction season. Property owner notification letters were mailed in December, a request for proposals was issued in February, and it is anticipated that a bid opening is scheduled for March. If you reside on an eligible street, there is still time to sign up for this program! Enroll today to receive high quality work at a discounted price.
