Step inside Proud Artistry on Brownsville Road and you ' ll find one of Brentwood ' s newest specialty beauty studios. Specializing in permanent cosmetics, including nano brows, powder brows, combination brows, permanent eyeliner, lip blush, freckles, beauty marks and scalp micro pigmentation, the shop combines artistry with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Rich colors, eclectic décor and artwork from fellow tattoo artists reflect owner Lauren Proud ' s creative style.
" I love inviting spaces and I want people to walk in and feel like they don ' t need to feel rushed to leave if they want to pop over here and hang out," Lauren said.
Originally from Southern California, Lauren built her career across the western United States before relocating to the Pittsburgh area four years ago. After rebuilding her clientele locally, she found the perfect home for Proud Artistry on Brownsville Road.
" I was like, ' Oh, there it is. It ' s literally a sign from the universe,'" Lauren recalled after spotting the storefront ' s " For Lease " sign. " So I just did what I could to get over here."
After months of transforming the space into the studio she envisioned, Proud Artistry celebrated its grand opening in June.
Lauren has spent 16 years in the beauty industry, beginning as a hairstylist before discovering permanent cosmetics more than a decade ago.
" I love tattoos and I love makeup and I love eyebrows, so I figured it was like a no-brainer," she said.
While considered tattooing, permanent cosmetics use different pigments and are placed more superficially than traditional tattoos. Depending on skin type, lifestyle and skincare routines, most services last between one and three years before a touch-up is needed. Cosmetic freckles are among the studio ' s growing services.
Lauren believes what truly sets her work apart is creating results that complement each individual rather than following trends.
" I think just having a vision. Everybody ' s face is so different and not slapping the same eyebrow on everybody," she said, adding that she focuses on " taking into account that faces are unique and beautiful in their own way."
" I love helping people feel great about themselves," Lauren said.
As Proud Artistry continues to grow, Lauren is mentoring an apprentice and hopes to expand into education while collaborating with neighboring businesses and becoming an active part of Brentwood ' s growing business community.
