A Message from Brentwood Public Works
As we head into the fall season, the Public Works Department would like to remind residents of a few important responsibilities and upcoming services.
Tree Maintenance:
All property owners are responsible for maintaining trees along streets, sidewalks, curbs, and alleys. This includes trimming branches to maintain a minimum of 8 feet of clearance above sidewalks and 14 feet above roadways. Dead limbs must also be removed to prevent potential hazards.
The Borough reserves the right to trim or remove any trees that overhang or encroach upon the public right-ofway, including above borough streets or alleys. However, trees located entirely on private property are the sole responsibility of the property owner even if they cause damage to a neighboring yard or structure. If a limb falls from a neighbor’ s tree, that is a private matter to be handled between homeowners.
Right-of-Way Reminders:
Residents are responsible for maintaining vegetation within the public right-of-way up to the edge of the curb or paved portion of the roadway. This includes trimming overgrowth along sidewalks, alleys, and curblines— even if it’ s outside a fence line. Please help us keep our community safe and walkable by keeping these areas clear.
Wood Chipping Program
Our Fall Wood Chipping Program is available for residents doing seasonal yard clean-up. If you’ re trimming trees or clearing branches, our crew can assist with disposal. This service is for residential properties only, and Public Works staff will make the final determination on what materials can be chipped. To schedule a chipping appointment on September 23 or November 4, please visit our website for details.
