The numbers add up to success for Brentwood Borough, which has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association( GFOA) for the fifth time.
This esteemed award represents the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and reflects the Borough’ s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in financial planning. The achievement is particularly notable as it requires a significant investment of time and effort, making it an uncommon accomplishment for municipalities of Brentwood’ s size.
Further highlighting the Borough’ s exceptional standards, this year’ s submission also earned Special 3 Recognition. This additional commendation is awarded when all three independent reviewers assign the highest possible scores in select evaluation categories, underscoring the exceptional quality of Brentwood’ s budget presentation.

received this prestigious distinction,” stated Brentwood Borough Council President Pro Tem and Administrative and Finance Committee chair, Mr. Harold Smith.“ This accomplishment is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of Borough staff, and it underscores our ongoing mission to maintain the highest standards in public service.”

Budget documents must be rated“ proficient” in all four categories and meet fourteen mandatory criteria.

Reviving a Brentwood Tradition: The Return of the Brentwood Business Owners Association
“ A strong business community means a stronger Brentwood.”
As part of the Borough’ s recently adopted Comprehensive Plan— and in alignment with the hiring of Brentwood’ s first-ever Main Street Manager— we are excited to announce an initiative to reestablish the Brentwood Business Owners Association( BBOA).
In years past, the BBOA was a driving force in our community, playing a critical role in securing grant funding for projects the Borough itself could not directly obtain. One standout example was the Brentaissance, an initiative that helped transform Brownsville Road’ s Businesses with new benches, banners, and a clock to help promote Brentwood’ s unique character and foster economic activity.
Why it matters now: Rebuilding the BBOA will strengthen the bridge between Borough leadership and the business community. It will give local businesses a unified voice, create new opportunities for growth, and position Brentwood to once again secure funding for projects that benefit the entire community.
The Main Street Manager will serve as the Executive Director of the revitalized BBOA, guiding its mission, building connections, and helping shape initiatives that support our local economy.
What’ s Next for Business Owners In the coming weeks, Brentwood businesses will receive personal invitations to attend a series of community meetings. These meetings will outline the vision, goals, and structure of the new BBOA and provide a platform for business owners to share ideas and shape the future of the organization.
This is your opportunity to help bring back a viable, active, and influential organization dedicated to the success of Brentwood’ s business community. Together, we can preserve our small-town charm while creating a vibrant future filled with opportunity.
Stay tuned for meeting dates— and watch your mailbox and email for your invitation.
