CITY BRIEFLY OF MCKEESPORT BRENTWOOD NEWS

Are we approaching 2024 or 1984 ? If one follows some Facebook posts and take them as gospel , I ’ d say the latter is more truth . I am on Facebook but those who are my “ Facebook Friends ” know I typically post pictures of my cats , concerts , trips , and of course food !! ( Along with recommendations for restaurants .) I do not follow anything or even read for that matter anything from any Brentwood Community Page ( whether official or not official ). I do add content to the Brentwood Borough Facebook page however . That being said , I do want to give an update on the former Borough Building Site ( 3624 Brownsville Road ). This is a very exciting time for Brentwood . In

addition to the many improvements and projects that occurred over the year , Brentwood Borough Council was never complacent to simply leave the former property idle in the hopes that someone might want to develop the property . Nor did they want to simply sell the property for a one-time revenue gain only to have the purchaser “ sit ” on the property for years or perhaps develop the property into something that may not be the best use for that location . Instead , Borough Council developed some goals and objectives of what they would like to see develop on that property . I had mentioned these a couple of years ago in this magazine , when the new Borough Building was still under construction and Council , rather than wait until we were moved into the new building , wanted to get things moving as soon as possible for developing the former site . These goals and objectives include , but are not limited to :
1 . An innovative development which builds upon Brentwood ' s character , contributes to the sense of place , and serves as a model for future ( re )

2 . A market-rate rental apartment community with ground floor retail ( offices potentially OK on 2nd floor but retail definitely on the ground floor , preferably some type of restaurant .)
3 . Plan for incorporating and / or treating Pary Street , which traverses the site .
4 . A proposed parking plan that incorporates into the project design a combination of on-site parking , street parking , and / or the use of additional Borough owned property located at 10-13 Marylea Avenue and / or 3630 Pary Street .
5 . Pedestrian-friendly design of all street frontages .
6 . A maximum financial return for the Borough for future property taxes and earned income taxes generated by the development of the property and the renters .
