Did you know? The Public Works Department has nine full time employees. The crew is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our residents. Always ready for emergencies or scheduled work. Holidays, no problem our crew is there to respond. Snow in the morning? We are ready to tackle whatever Mother Nature throws at us. The Borough recently purchased two new Ford 550 vehicles for the Public Works. One truck will be used for sanitary work along with winter maintenance. The other will be used primary for the park; these replacement vehicles will have salt spreaders and plows for winter maintenance. Council has made a commitment to ensure the DPW has the equipment needed for everyday tasks; especially snow removal. Our salt shed is at capacity of about 1,200 tons, which is 90% full and 800 tons of salt is pre-ordered through SHACOG. DPW Department of Public Works We have a yard waste roll-off located at the DPW building. Any Borough resident may bring branches, grass clippings, leaves, or waste generated by yard work. The DPW hours of operation are from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.; the material will be composted through Republic Waste Services. Leaf pick up this year will run for six weeks from October 17 to November 25. Please put leaves in brown paper bags. To save on the number of bags mulch the leaves with your mower then bag them. Another cheaper way is to create a mulch pile. There are several web sites available to assist residents create a mulch pile. The organic material you create can be used in your flower beds or gardens. Enjoy the fall! On Saturday, August 6, 2016 the Brentwood Historical Society sponsored the “Annual Yard Sale” throughout the Borough, many items were available for sale at very reasonable prices. It was nice to see so many residents and visitors walking along Brownsville Road perusing numerous items for sale. Not to mention the residents had the opportunity to get rid of unwanted items, they also made a small fortune. Later in the evening at 7:00 P.M., in Brentwood Park, the Brentwood Park & Recreation Director, presented the last 2016 Concert in the Park featuring “The Bachelor Boys”. The band was fantastic and played many tunes from the 1950’s through 1970’s. Reminiscing with the many memorable hits that you probably haven’t heard in a while. The female singer did a great rendition of “At Last” with a generous applaud from the audience. If you weren’t there you missed the young children “sit down dancing” to the music in the bleachers. The adults were also singing and swaying to the music as they were going back to their younger days. Enjoying every minute of it. 58 Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall Submitted by Mary Lou Garase At 9:30 P.M., the Brentwood 4th of July Committee sponsored the 2016 Spectacular Brentwood 4th of July Fireworks. What a great view sitting in the bleachers and watching the fireworks close up. The multitude of colors was exceptional, during the middle of the fireworks, a sensational blast of solid gold fireworks encased the sky shimmering down as if to fall on your lap. (So precious!) The fireworks continued, as with all good things come to an end, the finale was super with the display of several types of fireworks in a colorful blast creating a “Crayola” sky. Like I said, “If you weren’t there, you surely missed a great super Saturday in Brentwood, free to the public. All you had to do was be there.” Hope to see you and many more residents and visitors next year, you won’t be disappointed, it was an enjoyable day. “I commend the committees that were involved in scheduling these events and t heir efforts to make Brentwood a great place to “Hang your Hat” and enjoy your community!”
