GRILLING
SEASON IS HERE
W
armer weather and sunshine mean grilling season is
here. Backyard grills are becoming more popular than
ever so it is important to know what kinds of grills are
available. Gas grills (propane or natural gas) are still
the most popular, followed by the more traditional charcoal styles,
with other options available like pellet grills or electric grills rounding
out the choices. Many of these grills also offer the ability to function
as smokers, which can often be the primary mode of cooking for
many barbecue enthusiasts. Your budget, grill location, cooking
preferences, grill size and grill features will all impact the decision you
make.
GAS GRILLS
There is a wide variety of grills available that are fueled by gas. They
can be fueled by propane, the most popular option, or by natural gas.
Propane provides flexibility in the location of the grill and also allows
for it to be easily moved. Natural gas eliminates the need for refilling
the tank but requires access to a natural gas connection in your home
that can be extended to your deck or patio. Gas grills come in many
sizes, styles, colors and prices. They can be as little as $300 up to as
much as $2,500 or more. Some popular features offered are smoking,
searing stations, rotisseries, infrared burners and side burners. The
Weber brand is well-known for its quality and variety and is the
premium brand of gas grills featured at our stores.

CHARCOAL GRILLS
Often considered the more traditional way of grilling, charcoal
offers a distinct flavor imparted to the food. Charcoal is now available
in several styles like briquettes or lump. It is often supplemented by
adding wood chips like cherry, apple or mesquite to change the flavor
profile. Charcoal grills are available in many sizes, colors and styles.
The traditional kettle variety is still very popular but the Komodo,
or ceramic style, is becoming much more popular with grilling
enthusiasts. Our stores feature the Weber brand for the kettle style
and the Big Green Egg brand for the ceramic style. It’s not just hot
dogs and burgers on these grills. These grilling enthusiasts are often
referred to as EggHeads and use their grills to smoke, bake, sear and
grill items like wings, brisket, pulled pork, pizza, vegetables, seafood
and more. Temperature control is crucial to smoking enthusiasts, and
this style of grill offers that precise control they are looking for.
PELLET GRILLS
This style of grill has the ability to grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise,
and BBQ. Our stores feature the Traeger brand, which uses real wood
pellets from a variety of wood sources to create a unique grilling
experience. Flavors available include hickory, mesquite, apple,
cherry and more. These grills are also great at smoking and holding
a constant temperature. With the pellets being auto-fed into the fire
box, the grill can go for many hours without being monitored, which
is a feature appealing to many grillers.
