SEAHORSE

Stage 2 ( 45 Minutes )

Swimmers will be introduced to holding a streamline off the wall , side breathing in their Freestyle , and the arm techniques for Breaststroke and Butterfly . Children are going to be building on their endurance by swimming farther from the wall with the assistance of an instructor .

To move out of the group swimmers must master the following :

• Perfect Streamline

• Swimming 8 to 10 feet of freestyle with a side breath . ( side breath doesn ’ t need to be perfect )

• Swimming 8 to 10 Feet of Backstroke

• Swimming 8 to 10 feet of Butterfly ( Legs need to stay together , arms need to break the surface , timing does not need to be perfect )

• Swimming 8 to 10 feet of Breaststroke ( Kick and arms need to be legal , timing does not need to be perfect )

Upon mastery , the swimmers will receive a certificate of completion which will be used in the registration process of the next group .

TURTLES

Stage 3 ( 45 Minutes )

Swimmers are now consistently moving building distance for all four strokes by swimming half the length of the pool 15 feet with very little to no assistance from the instructor . Swimmers will be learning how to perfect their side breathing , the timing of their Butterfly , and their Breaststroke to the best of their abilities .

To move out of the group swimmers must master the following :

• Swimming 15 Feet unassisted from the instructor legally of all four strokes

Upon mastery , the swimmers will receive a certificate of completion which will be used in the registration process of the next group .

NARWHALS

Stage 4 ( 45 Minutes )

Time for the deep end ! Swimmers will build their endurance by working to swim the length of the pool in all four strokes . Children are going to be re-educated on water safety , specifically regarding the deep end . Learning how to properly jump / dive from the side of the pool , off the diving board , and swim back to the wall safely as well as learning how to tread water and go into a float .

To move out of the group swimmers must master the following :

• Jumping independently from the diving board

• Jumping from the diving board and independently swimming to the wall

• Treading water for 1 minute , going into a float , and kicking to the wall

• Swimming a full length of the pool ( 25 yards )

NO COOK TUESDAYS returns to the Bethel Park Community Center playground parking lot on March 7 ! This weekly event makes a triumphant return after a very successful run last year . Follow some of your favorite vendors that participate in our Farmers ’ Market and many new vendors as well .

Each Tuesday , two or more local food trucks will sell delicious dinner “ to go ” meals from 4 – 7 p . m .

Vendors will rotate weekly to provide customers a variety of vendors and food to choose from . without assistance from the instructors

DOLPHINS

Stage 5 ( 45 Minutes )

Loving swimming ? Dolphins is the perfect group to take right before your try out to join Bethel Park Recreation Swim Team . This group is going to provide you with a leg up on the competition by preparing you with everything you need to know for your first day .

Swimmers are going to continue to build on their endurance by swimming farther than 25 yards and learning how to properly do flip turns , open turns , and diving . This group is also going to educate the swimmers on appropriate terminology that is used daily in a competitive swim practice setting . This is a great group to take in addition to or before the Sharks program .

To move out of the group swimmers must master the following :

• Diving from the side of the pool

• Reading the clock

• Swimming a 50 + of each competitive stroke

Upon Completion of the Dolphins Group , swimmers will be given a certificate to bring to the coaches of the Bethel Park Recreation Swim Team to receive a Free Evaluation .
