SCIENCE CLUB STUDENTS HAVE FUN PARTICIPATING IN SEVERAL HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES

The 60 students in the Neil Armstrong Middle School Science Club are having a great year participating in several hands-on activities!

Because the group is so large, they are divided into two groups of 30, and they meet with Club Sponsor Mrs. Hirzel once a month.
For example, in October, the students were able to taste test Jell-O that glowed in the dark under a black light!
In November, the students began participating in Physics Quest, a middle school science competition, sponsored by the American Physical Society. Through this program the students are exploring currents, electricity and lighting, and even using Play Dough as a wire substitute!

As the year goes on, the students will explore the science of their senses, optical illusions and solar science. ethel Park

FIRST GRADERS LEARN ABOUT JAPAN

William Penn first graders learned a great deal about Japan, thanks to a visit from representatives from the Japan-America Society!

The students learned much about Japan, including famous landmarks, currency, clothing, food and the Japanese alphabet.
The students were most interested in learning about how schools function in Japan, and they were surprised to learn that Japanese students are the ones responsible for cleaning their school at
Students enjoyed learning Japanese calligraphy as part of the program.
Students at William Penn definitely have something in common with students in Japan. They both love Pokemon! the end of the day. The students were especially excited to try on the gakko, which is a special hardsided backpack that the Japanese students use to carry their books.
The Penn students also learned some common Japanese words and phrases and finished their time by learning origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. The students made paper animals and had a great time. The students are taught by Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Joseph.

LINCOLN STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN HOUR OF CODE

Lincoln students once again participated in a week of Hour of Code activities in December.

Students in all grades participated, using a variety of unplugged and plugged-in activities.
Using some creative off-line tools, such as the Robot Turtle board game and the programmable Robot Mice, students learned and practiced 21st century skills, such as problem analysis and algorithmic thinking.
Students also had the opportunity to use technology by experiencing various coding applications, including Scratch Jr. CODE. org and Kodable.
Kayden Allen enjoyed participating in Hour of Code activities.
