S NAMS SCIENCE CLUB STUDENTS HELP TO CREATE HERB GARDEN AT THEIR SCHOOL even members of the Neil Armstrong Middle School Science Club stayed after school to help Food Service Director Joe Consolmagno create four pallet gardens to grow fresh herbs that will enhance the meals served in the NAMS cafeteria in the fall. Mr. Consolmagno made the pallets and the students filled them with dirt and planted seeds to grow oregano, thyme, sage, rosemary, cilantro, parsley, basil and chives. Participating in this great hands-on learning experience that will benefit all NAMS students were Haley Bell, Sarah Yarroll, Riley Smith, D.J. Meyers, Allison Scarlett, Willow Hernishin and Jacob Toth. The students are sponsored by Science Club Advisor Wendy Hirzel. Thanks to Evey Hardware for donating the seeds! FIFTH GRADERS MAKE ENVIRONMENTAL BIOMES s the culminating activity to their unit on environmental studies, fifth grade students on Team Ranger made life-size biome murals that their teachers hung in the hallways outside their classrooms. Some of the environments the students studied included a Temperate Forest in the Appalachian Mountains, an African Savannah, a Myanmar Rainforest, an Indonesian Tropical Rainforest, three different Oceans and a Coral Reef. The students learned about the food chain in each of these environments, and identified which animals were predators and which were prey, which were carnivores and which were omnivores. The students worked in teams to create the murals for their biome, These students did a fantastic job creating this and each student had to research three organisms, create a life-size depiction of their organisms using colored paper, and create a Google doc paragraph that was placed on the mural, Here are some students with their colorful coral next to each of the reef biome. organisms. The murals were fantastic, depicting animals such as a bear, bobcat, fox, birds, tiger, giraffe, elephant, lion and whales. One of the murals contained a 3-
