LEFT : Professor Saul Cunningham addresses the recent ABA R & D Forum .
Professor Cunningham said it takes a lot of effort to bring together people from different regions and industries . As an example cherries and almonds are grown in different regions , sell to different markets and deal with
different pests , yet farmers from these industries both share the need for pollinators . Professor Cunningham said that ’ s why a CRC is the right mechanism to look at these issues . “ It ’ s about saying to all the different industries that use pollinators , you ’ ve got at least one thing really in common here and that ’ s how do we get the best pollination outcomes ,” he said . Professor Cunningham said if the bid is successful one of the first priorities would be to create a national pollination strategy , something that many other countries already have . “ As an individual farmer you can make your own decisions , but you are buffeted by all of the other stuff that ’ s happening in the landscape , including what your neighbours and public land managers are doing and how the beekeeping industry is responding to other pressures ,” he said .
