World-renowned chefs get a taste for almonds
TWO world-renowned chefs , Mark Best and Duncan Welgemoed ( both pictured right ), visited the Riverland last month to taste the region ’ s local produce . This project is run by Regional Development of Australia Murraylands and Riverland ( RDAMR ) and developed through the Agri Food and Tourism Development ( AFTD ) Program . This was all in preparation for the Tasting Australia event that will be held in April , along the riverbanks of Loxton , SA , with both chefs attending and showcasing local produce . We were fortunate enough to show Duncan and Mark around the Almond Board of Australia experimental orchard . Both chefs sampled the various almond varieties while also building their understanding of the almond industry . Overall , the visit was a success , with both chefs blown away by the innovative methods of producing high quality almonds for global consumption , sustainably . We look forward to seeing how the chefs incorporate almonds as a part of the Tasting Australia event and at their own award-winning restaurants .
Engaging with Food Professionals
THE ABA marketing team has developed an extensive program with health professionals and consumers through sending packs of 30g snack tins filled with almonds . It is a great promotion as it supports healthy eating and builds greater awareness of Australian almonds . Earlier this month we supported a Health Professionals event for World Obesity Day by providing them with snack tins to distribute to their attendees . The purpose of this event was to provide further education surrounding a healthy diet and to promote the health foods that assist in weight management . We also provided snack tins in support for an event held at the Box Hill Football Club ( VFL ) to encourage young footballers to eat almonds as a recovery snack . It was a chance to teach younger consumers about the recommended serving size of almonds and the various health benefits they provide us .
