Glenda Cobby

Peter Goodes

As a qualified chef , Peter knows how to spot quality produce when he sees it – so it ’ s no wonder he ’ s ended up working in the almond industry .
Having worked with almonds for the past seven years , you ’ ll find Peter driving the shaker for Century Orchard during harvest .
Outside of that busy time , the Loxton local also has a vital role as part of the orchard irrigation team managing the watering and maintaining the irrigation system across the orchard .
An almond orchard is a far cry from the classroom , but for retired teacher ’ s aid Glenda , the wide open spaces of her new workplace hold plenty of appeal .
After retiring from her fulltime role in the education sector , Glenda , who hails from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland , adopted the motto : “ I only do fun jobs now , with fun people ”.
Working with CMV Farms , this is Glenda ’ s first harvest and she ’ s enjoying her role as a shuttle driver ( also known as a runner ), charged with the important job of getting the nuts from the orchard to the drying green .
“ I really enjoy working in the industry and find the whole process surrounding the growing and harvesting of almonds interesting ”.
“ I have learnt more than what I ’ ve ever known about almonds . There ’ s a whole lot more to the industry than just opening a pack from the supermarket .”
