NSNA Board Meeting Highlights
The 2025-2026 NSNA Board of Directors met May 12-13, 2025, in New York City. The following actions were taken:
n Accepted minutes of the April 7, 2025 Board of Directors meeting; and approved minutes of the April 13, 2025 Board of Directors meeting.
n Accepted reports from the following committees: Finance, Breakthrough to Nursing, Population and Global Health, Image of Nursing, Health Policy and Advocacy, Membership, Ethics and Governance, and Convention Planning.
n Approved the appointment of the 2026 Resolutions Committee.
n Approved the appointment of the 2025-2026 Imprint reporters.
n Approved the theme for the 2025 MidYear Conference:“ Hit your Note: Find your Rhythm, Fuel your Passion.”
n Approved the theme for the 2026 Annual Convention:“ Grounded in Purpose, Destined for the Stars.”
NSNA Holds Summer Leadership U Summit in New York City
Over 100 students and faculty attended the NSNA Leadership U Summer Summit on July 25, 2025. The Summit was held virtually with participants from across the country. The objectives of the Summit were to help NSNA members and faculty understand NSNA’ s mission and programs; create stronger and more active school and state chapters; problem solve, network and share ideas; and form a professional identity in nursing.
Greetings were presented by Dr. Beth Oliver, DNP, RN, FAAN, Chief Nurse Executive and Senior Vice President of Cardiac Services at Mount Sinai Health System.
The summit kicked off with Ryan Barrett, NSNA President, sharing his NSNA leadership journey. Next, the NSNA Board of Directors shared how to form professional identity in nursing through NSNA leadership and goals for their committees. Leah Stone, Chair, NSNA Nominating and Elections Committee presented on how to run for NSNA national office, and Vicky Vo presented on writing and submitting a NSNA Resolution. Dr. Shirley Quarles, President of the Foundation of the NSNA presented, Empowering Future Nurses: The Transformational Impact of the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.
One of the highlights was Keynote speaker Dr. Michael Bleich, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FNAP, FAAN, President and CEO of NurseDynamics, LLC and Vice President of the Foundation of the NSNA, motivating attendees with his inspiring presentation,“ Why You Are Already a Leader— So What’ s Next?” Another highlight of the Summit was a panel presentation with Mount Sinai nurse managers from various specialty areas. The panel talked about what it is like to be a nurse leader in a large health system.
