Hey NSNA!
Welcome back to school— the start of a new academic year is such an exciting time! For some, it’ s the very first day of nursing school; for others, it’ s the start of senior year and the final stretch before entering the profession. I hope this year brings you new opportunities for growth, leadership development, and lasting connections.
This issue of Imprint is designed to support and inspire you as you transition back into student life. The NSNA staff, Board of Directors, Nominating and Elections Committee, Imprint Reporters, and Resolutions Committee share greetings and updates on what they’ ll be working on throughout the 2025 – 2026 term.
In this issue, be sure to check out the popular Study Tips feature on pages 36-37, a collection of practical, real-world advice from fellow NSNA members. Learn how they balance coursework, clinicals, and personal life, manage test anxiety, and stay motivated when things get tough— these tips will help you start the semester strong.
The 2026 scholarship application season has started. Get inspired to apply for scholarships and grants after reading about this year’ s Littmann Stethoscope and Marilyn Bagwell Leadership Development Grant recipients. The 2026 FNSNA scholarship and grants applications are now open. You can also explore the 2025 NSNA Program Awards recipients and start preparing your own submissions for the NSNA Annual Convention in April 2026.
This issue features a motivational piece by Dr. Shirley Quarles, who encourages students to reflect, set meaningful goals, and approach the semester with purpose. Her insights serve as a reminder that the habits and mindset you cultivate now will shape the kind of nurse you become. Additionally, Camille Chae highlights the importance of building resilience and prioritizing mental health to ensure long-term career sustainability and reduce burnout in the article,“ Building Resilience and Enhancing Mental Health” on page 33.
As you move through the semester, practice mindfulness, be grateful for the opportunity to learn, manage your stress, set healthy boundaries, connect with your peers, and find balance in your time management.
Get involved in your community this year! Consider joining your local school chapter or state association and, of course, participate in NSNA. These organizations offer invaluable opportunities to grow as a leader and deepen your understanding of nursing’ s impact. You’ ll also be inspired by President Barrett’ s recent travels to Helsinki, Finland, representing NSNA and engaging in global conversations about preparing student nurses for their transition into professional practice.
Even as students, we have a profound impact on our patients. In this issue’ s Reflections column, Jessica Rohde reminds us that nurses can be a comforting presence in patients’ most difficult moments— a reminder to take pride in the compassion and care we bring to others.
I wish you the best of luck this school year! I’ m so excited for you to read this issue of Imprint and hope it gives you tools, inspiration, and encouragement to thrive. Remember, NSNA offers so many resources and benefits for members to help you throughout the year— don’ t miss out!
Happy reading,
Lauren E. Tickner Imprint Editor
