Marilyn Bagwell Leadership Development Grant: Empowering Students to Advocate

The National Student Nurses ' Association( NSNA) chapter at Columbia State Community
College has experienced a remarkable year of growth and achievement, thanks to a Marilyn Bagwell Leadership Development Grant. This support has enabled the chapter to increase membership from 61 to 95 students, reflecting an impressive surge in nursing student involvement.
The academic year began with an innovative leadership development day in which all 10 SNA leaders participated. Students engaged in a
comprehensive program that combined knowledge acquisition, skill development, and simulated experiences focused on addressing future safety concerns in the healthcare workforce. The effectiveness of these initiatives was measured using the Simulation Effectiveness Tool
Modified( SET-M), which revealed statistically significant improvements( p < 0.05) in learning effectiveness and confidence among participants.
Drawing inspiration from the American Nurses Association( ANA) education advocacy resources and supporting the NSNA resolution " In Support of Increased Awareness and
Reporting Violence Against Nurses," the chapter organized three
