Greetings from your 2024-2025 Elected Officials

Board of Directors

Ethan Slocum
President Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University Cleveland , OH president @ nsna . org
Hello NSNA members ! I want to first thank each and every one of you for your support , and allowing me the honor to serve as your 2024-2025 NSNA President . It was fantastic to meet so many of you at the 2024 Annual Convention in Orlando , I loved having the opportunity to connect with you all on what NSNA means to you and what you want to see from us in the future .
A little about me , I am a third-year nursing student pursing my BSN at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University ( CWRU ) in Cleveland , Ohio . At CWRU , I have served our school chapter of NSNA for a total of three years . In my two years as president , I have overseen the growth and flourishing of our 500-member organization . I also have served as a resident assistant for the past two years where I have supported the development and success of other students . At the state level , I serve as the director of health policy and advocacy for the state of Ohio . In each of these roles , my goal has been to do everything in my power to lift up and support others in their endeavors ,
More personally , I am the oldest of 3 boys , a dog lover , and what you would call an ‘ outdoorsy ’ person . I have grown up in both Ohio and Michigan , with the latter being where I went to middle and high school and found my passion for connecting with others . Early on in my education , I realized my favorite parts of school revolved around connecting with others . My first exposure was working as a teaching assistant for a third-grade class while in Middle School . Having the opportunity to see the impact support and mentorship can have on others inspired me to seek out a path that would allow me to do so long-term . Through continued mentorship opportunities , developing a passion for science , and being inundated with dinner conversation of diverse patient interactions , by my mom who is also a nurse , I found nursing ... or maybe nursing found me . Either way , I have been definitively hooked since my first clinical rotation freshman year at CWRU .
As of now , I plan to pursue pediatric critical care nursing upon graduation . During my pediatric rotation , I was harkened back to that third-grade classroom and was able to connect to the impact that education can have on young patients . Additionally , I am someone who needs to be kept busy constantly , so that is where the critical care aspect comes into play .
My drive to stay busy , active , and productive lends to my relentless desire to help NSNA students be more prepared as they enter the nursing field and to feel supported in their experience as nursing students . As I shared during my campaign , my goals surround : finding ways to make my relationship with our delegation personal by exploring ways to connect directly with our students to support their needs ; clarifying communication to better support NSNA members in their growth as individuals , students , and future nurses ; and increasing the accessibility of NSNA ’ s message through exploring new modes of communication to increase student engagement and recruitment .
I see my job as president to act as your voice , to support your elected officials , and act in the best interest of our students . So , I plan to do everything possible in my year as president to support each and every one of you
