John Guillot
Director San Francisco State University School of Nursing San Francisco , CA directorw @ nsna . org
My name is John Guillot and I am a full-time nursing student completing an ADN-BSN bridge program in San Francisco , CA . Before starting school , I worked as a caregiver in home health . Before going into healthcare , I held positions in the service and retail sectors where I thrived in training and development . I decided to go into healthcare after being a patient . Remarkably , the sequence of my experience makes advocating for clients my true passion . I hope to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and participate in research regarding HIV-prevention and Opioid-withdrawal protocols . My true heroes are individuals that empower nurses to be their best . cagann McVay , and I am honored to be a Director on the NSNA Board of Directors this year . I also serve as chair of the Health Policy and Advocacy Committee and member on the Breakthrough to Nursing Committee and Image of Nursing Committee .
I am from the small , country town of Dyer , Tennessee , and I attend the University of Tennessee at Martin . I am entering my junior year of college and my second year in the BSN program . During my freshman year , I knew that I wanted to find a way to get involved at my school , but I was not sure which path was right for me . That was when I discovered the Student Nurses Association . This organization has helped me grow in a professional way while also having fun and serving the communities around me . I quickly became involved in my school chapter , and I now serve as the Projects Chairperson and run our social media accounts . It is truly the perfect fit for me , and I am so excited to serve on the national level !
I always struggled deciding what career I wanted to pursue . The medical field interested me , but it is a very broad area with many different paths . I chose nursing due to the personal connections you make with people , and the opportunity you have to make a difference . Nurses take care of people in their most vulnerable state . They have the ability to be a source of light in someone ’ s darkest day . I know that this profession is right for me and I am humbled to pursue it and one day , practice it .
As the chair of the Health Policy and Advocacy Committee , I aspire to bring awareness to the importance of advocating for yourself and your patients . As nursing students , it is so important that we develop the knowledge and leadership skills needed to be successful in our careers . Advocating does not just stop at the bedside . We should be prepared to represent ourselves in the state and federal legislatures as well . I hope that NSNA members are aware of the learning resources NSNA offers to teach them about navigating this legislature .
I am on track to graduate in May of 2026 ( halfway done yay !). Upon graduation , I plan to work in a hospital as a labor and delivery nurse . Travel has always been a passion of mine , which is why I think travel nursing would be right up my alley ! After gaining some years of
