NURSE TIPS
PRIORITIZE SELF CARE n Make sure you take time to refill your cup through selfcare so that you can pour into others through your work as a nurse . Remember you cannot pour with an empty cup !
n Do not be afraid to say no if you are saying yes to your personal emotional , physical , and mental well-being .
n Self care can be whatever helps you to refill your cup : working out , reading , going for walks in nature , spending time with loved ones , napping , journaling , etc
n During stressful situations inside and outside of the hospital , take a moment to take a deep breath : you got this !
Practice Interview Questions
1 . Tell me about yourself : make sure to include your experience whether that be working as a tech , your clinical experience , or leadership in SNA and NSNA ! Tell them what makes you different .
2 . Why this particular hospital or unit ? Make sure you ressarch the mission statement of the hospital and explain why you feel you would be a good match for this unit or hospital . Example : I want the opportunity to work in a challenging environment that allows me to constantly grow and learn as I continue to sharpen my critical thinking skills . I want to care for people during their most vulnerable time and give them the same care I would want my family members to receive .
3 . Why did you become a nurse ? Say something more than you are compassionate . Add a story if you can !
4 . What is your biggest strength and weakness ? Be creative and explain why ! For weakness choose something that you are actively working on and explain how you are working on it .
STARTING A NEW JOB
n Make sure to take notes from your preceptor : I suggest purchasing a small notebook to write helpful tips and strategies .
n Make sure you review the dress code and policies as stated .
n Remember that there is so much to learn and give yourself grace .
n ASK QUESTIONS !
n Pay close attention during your orientation to workflow and how to manage various problems that could occur on the unit .
5 . How do you deal with stress ? Nursing encounter a lot of situations such as death which can be challenging to process thus it is important to have and readily use stress management techniques and build healthy habits . Examples are journaling , working out , talking with friends and loved ones , etc .
