Valerie Ross Happenings Reporter Southern Utah University Cedar City , UT nsna @ nsna . org , Attn : Happenings
Greetings , fellow NSNA members ! I am honored to have been selected for the role of Happenings Reporter for Imprint magazine . I ’ m a senior in the BSN program at Southern Utah University ( SUU ) in Cedar City . I am concurrently Treasurer for both the SUU Student Nurses ’ Association and the Utah Student Nurses ’ Association . I truly enjoy the opportunity to work with the leadership at my university and at the statewide level . It is a great experience for me to expand on my leadership skills and collaborate with amazing nursing students across the state . I attended the 2023 NSNA Annual Convention with my fellow committee members across Utah and was thrilled to connect and network with fellow NSNA colleagues . I also seek out ways to help within my community . During my time at SUU , I have volunteered for the Red Cross Ambassador organization and really enjoyed participating in a campus blood drive and learning valuable techniques .
I live in St . George , UT , and serve my local community by volunteering at the local hospice center working with patients and caregivers . I have a broad range of interests – and writing is an important avenue for self-expression . As Happenings Reporter , I expect to have an opportunity to promote and showcase amazing students and their contributions to the nursing field . I look forward to this growth and development opportunity within the NSNA organization and beyond . Let me hear from you ! You can contact me at nsna @ nsna . org , Attn : Happenings . n
Mahlon Mathieson Up Close Reporter Hudson County Community College Jersey City , NJ nsna @ nsna . org , Attn : Up Close
Hello fellow NSNA friends ! I am so pleased to serve as the Up Close reporter for this upcoming academic year . I hope to highlight members of our community who illustrate the best parts of ourselves as nursing students , while providing the essential reassurance and support needed to continue our personal journeys and best assist in our future nursing practice .
I am currently in my second and final year at the Hudson County Community College ( HCCC ) Nursing Program , a senior dually attending New York University to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Biology . I also serve as President of my local NSNA chapter – HCCC Nursing Club . I was intrigued by the position as an Imprint reporter because I find connections to be the cornerstone of our careers as nurses . I welcome the ability to share , engage , and network with fellow , like-minded individuals who can provide us with knowledge we would not have been privy to otherwise . I want to give back to NSNA for all they have provided me . I am so appreciative that I was given this opportunity to use my position to bring awareness .
Nursing has always existed in the recesses of my mind , and I am so fortunate to have been provided the space to grow not only academically , but more importantly as an empathetic , interactive leader who now can learn more about individual patients , while also providing optimal care through their most trying times . I look at nursing as a path of seemingly limitless prospects with so many avenues and options to be explored .
Because of interest in participating in people ’ s lives by listening to their anecdotes and wisdom , I anticipate opportunities to interview NSNA members from across the nation . I firmly believe that we all have an important story to tell so I look forward to having the opportunity to put yours in writing for other NSNA members to relish the academic and personal moments chosen to be shared . Here ’ s to a thrilling year filled with special moments and good grades ! n
