Hello lovely fellow nursing students and NSNA members ! I am so excited to be your Imprint Editor and Chair of the Image of Nursing Committee for the 2023-2024 school year . Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to lead and serve you all . I am thrilled to partner with other Board Members in our committee work . I am a senior BSN student at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville , FL . I have been an active member of NSNA since the start of my nursing journey and have found an appreciation for nurse leadership through the amazing resources and opportunities with which this organization provides students . If you are not active in NSNA , I welcome you with open arms to this wonderful organization and encourage you to become involved .
Nursing is such a beautiful and impactful career for people worldwide . As Chair of the Image of Nursing Committee I want to ensure that people view nurses as compassionate , trusting , and highly educated individuals who come from diverse backgrounds . I am so grateful to be a part of this beautiful and impactful profession alongside all of you . I have always had a strong desire to be a nurse because of the compassion and love nurses showed me and my family from the time I was young . I want to extend this same compassion and love through my service as a nurse to my community and other families . After graduating nursing school , I see myself working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at my local children ’ s hospital . Fellow nursing students , when a test seems too hard , you feel like giving up , didn ’ t have the best clinical experience , or didn ’ t pass skills check off , always remember why you started . You are worth so much more than a test grade or a passing score .
In addition to my involvement in NSNA , I am the Membership Coordinator for Delight Ministries , the Publicity Chair for the National Society of Leadership and Success , and a member of an Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society and the Honors College at Jackson University .
My goal for this year is to increase the readership of Imprint and engagement within NSNA . I want to empower nursing students for their bright futures by using social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook . I am thrilled to announce the launching of a new NSNA Imprint Instagram ! The new Imprint Instagram is a wonderful place for you to connect with other nursing students , receive resources , see compelling articles featured , and get more involved in NSNA . Follow us at @ nsnaimprint ! Contact me at imprinteditor @ nsnainc . org if you want to get involved or be featured !
I am thrilled and honored to start this new journey with such an excellent board and serving all of you ! I cannot wait to meet you all at the NSNA MidYear Conference in San Diego , CA , and at the Annual Convention in Orlando , FL . Do not hesitate to reach out . I would love to hear from all of you . Much Love ! n
Julie Chan Breakthrough to Nursing Director Pennsylvania State University University Park , PA btndirector @ nsnainc . org
Hey NSNA ! I am a senior nursing student at Penn State . I have minors in child maltreatment and advocacy studies , as well as in human development and family studies . In my local chapter , I have served as the College of Nursing Ambassador as well as one of the Penn State Dance MaraTHON ( THON ) Chairs . THON is the biggest student run philanthropy in the U . S .; we raise funds for childhood cancer . On the state level , I was the Nominating and Elections Committee Central for the 2021-2022 year .
Some of my hobbies include reading , going on walks , and exploring new places . In terms of nursing , I am hoping to become an Intensive Care Unit nurse and to eventually get a Master of Public Health , as diversity , equity , and inclusion ( DEI ) is something that I am passionate about , especially regarding LGBTQIA + healthcare .
My goals for this term are to be a resource for schools and states developing their local and state BTN efforts , to get to know more nursing students across the U . S ., and to promote nursing as a profession to more people .
Nursing is such a diverse profession for both the people we work with and serve , but also in terms of the many different paths one can take to become a nurse . Being able to help students foster their passions in nursing will no doubt help future generations of nurses .
I look forward to serving as your Breakthrough to Nursing chair and cannot wait for what the year has in store . n
