Daden Collicott Diligent . Willing . Genuine . Supportive . These are only a few of the words classmates use when describing Daden Collicott . Daden attends Montana State University ( MSU ) in Kalispell , MT , where he serves as MSU Kalispell Campus Secretary and is heavily invested in the betterment of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai tribes of which he and his family are generational members .
As an involved third-semester nursing student on campus , Daden enjoys serving as a resource in any capacity and providing help to his classmates and other cohorts alike . Within minutes of talking to Daden , it was apparent that one of the sincerest characteristics about him is his desire to work diligently to become the best version of himself .
Raised in Pablo , MT , and born on the Salish and Kootenai Flathead Indian Reservation , Daden quickly assumed the caretaker role among his siblings as an older brother . While challenging at times , Daden attributes much of his success to his elders before him , like his yaya , or grandmother , and other maternal family . Their teachings and lessons paved the way for Daden to fully comprehend and embrace his native heritage . Such lifelong
lessons included familiar adages — for example , that all individuals should be treated equally and with respect and that disability is not a problem , but rather a different life experience and one to be regarded with compassion and empathy . He acknowledges the sacrifices made by his parents , particularly his father , who served as a quiet source of reassurance . Daden took these lessons of humility , consideration , and respect for others as he embarked on his nursing journey where he met his current friend group .
Daden ’ s nursing journey began at a young age with encounters and friendships among those of varying disabilities . He recognizes his teacher , Ms . Briske , as a catalyst who , after witnessing his interactions with his friends of all abilities , recommended that he complete a certified nursing assistant ( CNA ) training program through his local hospital .
