Running from the floor
Happy New Year everyone ! I hope you all enjoyed a well-deserved break and took some time for self-care as you start the spring semester . My name is Mikayla Shankweiler , and I am the Eastern Area Representative for the Nominating and Elections Committee .
I had the pleasure of meeting with many of you at the MidYear Conference where my fellow NEC representatives met with prospective candidates and conducted a workshop on
How to Run for National Office . We are excited to fill this year ’ s slate with extraordinary students who wish to advance their leadership skills and are enthusiastic about shaping the future of nursing .
It might seem scary to try and find the best position to run for , and that is why we are here to help . By submitting your application , résumé , and letters of recommendation , the NEC can help find the best position for you ! We currently have nine available Board of Directors positions : President , Vice President , Secretary / Treasurer , Imprint Editor , Breakthrough to Nursing Director , and Directors North , South , East , and West . For the Nominating and Elections committee , we designate four representatives into North , South , East , and West regions of the United States and elect a committee chair .

Our deadline for pre-slating as a candidate has passed , but don ’ t be discouraged as you still have the opportunity of Running from the Floor ! This means that you will be required to have an NSNA delegate nominate you at the NSNA House of Delegates business meetings at the 71st NSNA Annual Convention . Here are some steps to take to Run from the Floor :
First , fill out the official NSNA Request for NSNA Office Information form

Then , you must complete and submit the “ Run for National Office ” application before the Convention . This application includes the following :
