What a wonderful honor it is to serve as the 2022-2023 Secretary / Treasurer of the National Student Nurses ’ Association ! Another great school year awaits us , and it is such a pleasure sending greetings to the NSNA membership , staff , nursing professors , and other friends of the organization . I am excited to duly execute my duty as the Secretary / Treasurer of NSNA and to empower nursing students to be better equipped for their nursing career . I am a senior at Newberry College in Newberry , South Carolina . I serve in various leadership positions in my college and in other national organizations . I plan on using my experience gained from these roles to faithfully serve NSNA members .
My goal for this year is simple yet ambitious : support state / chapter associations with increasing revenue for their operations . One of the best ways to achieve this is by exponentially increasing membership . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , numerous associations have downsized in numbers and some have even lost NSNA constituency status . Increasing membership will increase the associations ’ revenue without them having to raise dues . I plan to provide education on how to obtain NSNA constituency status . Achieving this status opens an organization up to several academic and financial benefits NSNA has to offer .
In addition to my responsibilities as Secretary / Treasurer , I serve as the Chairperson of the Finance Committee . I am also a member of the Executive Committee and Convention Planning Committee . I am eager to help set forth goals and achieve great outcomes with my fellow committee members . The 2022-2023 NSNA Board follows a strategic plan to guide NSNA as an organization for years to come . We were elected by the House of Delegates to address the issues most important to them . From lowering school fees , decreasing barriers to entry into the nursing field , increasing minority outreach , and advocating for better mental healthcare , we hear what our constituents want loud and clear . We are dedicated to coming up with creative solutions for the betterment of our future profession . Though we cannot solve everything in a year , it is important that we use the time we have productively . When we must end our work it is imperative that the next NSNA board is set up for success .
I encourage NSNA members as well as aspiring NSNA members , to reach out to me when in need . I am always happy to help even if it might seem like an insignificant concern . As my professor would say , “ There is no wrong or right question !” Please reach out to me at secretarytreasurer @ nsnainc . org . I look forward to seeing you all at the NSNA MidYear Conference in Virginia Beach , VA , November 10-13 and at the 71st Annual Convention in Nashville , TN , April 12-16 . Thank you and have a wonderful school year . n

Hi NSNA Members ! I ’ m Azariah Torain and I am your Imprint Editor for the 2022-2023 school year ! I just started my Junior year as a BSN student at the University of Pittsburgh and serve as the Diversity , Equity , and Inclusion chair for Pitt ’ s Nursing Student Association as well as the Activities Chair for Pitt ’ s Black Student Nurses Association . After graduation I see myself working in the Pediatric ICU or Neonatal ICU , and eventually becoming involved in executive leadership .
I know that this year is quite a rebuilding year for all of us . We are adjusting to a new normal and despite those challenges , I embrace this time as an opportunity for good change . I know that attention spans are short these days , so when people take the time to read an article it needs to be ultra-relevant and captivating ). My goal is to deliver you just that . From knowing how to handle being bullied at clinical to landing the post-grad job of your dreams , my plan is to cover the good , bad , and the ugly .
There are so many stories that haven ’ t been told yet . We live in the era of digital influencers and believe it or not , nurses have been at the forefront of this movement , building our own social media empire . While we know all about HIPPA violations caused by internet oversharing , we don ’ t discuss the benefits being a content creator can have to nearly the same extent . I want to shift from fearmongering about the utilization of social media to teaching responsible usage . In addition to this , my hope is that Imprint can help further progress in nursing ’ s diversity , equity , and inclusion efforts . The experience of nursing school being told through the lens of minority and marginalized nursing students is something that is becoming more commonplace , but we still have a way to go . Imprint is for all of us , and by providing diverse viewpoints we can strive towards representation for every NSNA Member .
Aside from being an informational resource , Imprint is a place for both you and your chapter to shine ! Happenings reporter Tiffinei is here to showcase your state and school chapters ’ success and Up Close reporter Abigail is ready to put a spotlight on your individual achievements ! In addition to receiving recognition in the magazine , I want you to be able to share your accomplishments on your chapters ’ social media . NSNA ’ s Board will post about your article on our Instagram and Facebook pages for you to repost .
As the nursing profession is constantly pivoting , so are the topics that matter to you . I am available by email all year ( imprinteditor @ NSNAinc . org ) and will strive to bring you articles on long-standing issues in nursing as well as news ripped straight from the headlines . I ’ m thrilled to be on this journey with such an incredible board and am honored to be working for you . n
