All NSNA members are invited to launch their Professional Identity Formation in Nursing through participation in the NSNA Leadership University Honor Society . Members enroll in the Honor Society by participating in leadership at the school , state , or national level . Students qualify by serving in a leadership position ( i . e ., elected or appointed to the Board of Directors , chapter committees , and participation in projects / activities as determined by the chapter ), and attending state association and NSNA virtual and / or live meetings . Chapters must have a minimum of 10 members and be eligible for official NSNA constituency status ( renewed annually ) for chapter leaders to enroll in the Honor Society . All NSNA members are eligible — there are no additional dues required .
Professional Identity Formation in Nursing The NSNA Leadership University Honor Society accelerates the formation of a professional identity in nursing . Nursing school is the beginning of a nursing student ’ s leadership journey that will advance their career and contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession . NSNA provides numerous opportunities for students to learn about the many facets of the nursing profession including Population and Global Health ; Breakthrough to Nursing ( recruitment into the profession ); Ethics and Governance ; Health Policy and Advocacy ; Image of Nursing ; and governing a school chapter , state association and national organization . Through these programs , social justice , social determinants of health , diversity , equity , and inclusion will contribute to the advancement of nursing ’ s social mission and are integrated into professional identity .
Think , Act and Feel Like a Nurse The signposts of professional Identity in Nursing include : Values and Ethics , Leadership , Knowledge , and Professional Comportment .* By practicing leadership in nursing school , students apply and integrate learning to build their self-confidence and knowledge . Nursing students are better prepared think , act and feel like a professional nurse and to transition into nursing practice and leadership roles as a new graduate RN .
* NSNA is collaborating with Nelda Godfrey , PhD , ACNS-BC , RN , FAAN , ANEF , Professor and Associate Dean , Innovative Partnerships and Practice , University of Kansas School of Nursing , Kansas City , Kansas , and The International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing work group led by Debra Liebig , MLA , BSN , RN , NPD-BC , Program Manager , Service & Performance Excellence , Accreditation & Regulatory Readiness Department , Children ’ s Mercy Kansas City , MO , to foster awareness of students and faculty about the need for a Professional Identity in Nursing . •
Imprint receives Honorable Mention in the INANE Nursing Journal Hall of Fame Imprint magazine , which has been published since 1968 , received an Honorable Mention from the International Academy of Nursing Editors ( INANE ) Nursing Journal Hall of Fame . INANE established the Nursing Journal Hall of Fame to recognize scholarly nursing journals that have 50 or more years of continuous publication and sustained contributions to nursing knowledge . Imprint was recognized during the INANE Annual Meeting on August 3rd , 2022 , in Nashville , TN . Special thanks to Frances Likis , DrPH , NP , CNM , FACNM , FAAN who provided funding for the Hall of Fame awards for 2020 , 2021 , and 2022 . The 2022-2023 NSNA President , Taylor Conaway , brought greetings to the American Nurses Association Membership Assembly , Washington , DC , on June 10 , 2022 . •
NSNA Celebrates the NSNA / Columbia University Groundbreaking LGBTQ Mentoring Program The goal of the LGBTQ mentoring program was to increase knowledge of LGBTQ health among nursing students developing a one-year LGBTQ health mentorship program for NSNA members . Mentees participated in a one-yea training program that consisted of one-on-one mentoring and bi-monthly workshops focused on LGBTQ health topics . Mentees worked with assigned mentors to complete a final research project highlighting clinical , research , and / or policy implications for an LGBTQ health issue of their choice . •
