Nominating and Elections Committee

Isabella Allgaier NEC Chairperson and Western Representative 2020-2021 Nominating and Elections Committee NECwest @ nsnainc . org
Together We Lead , Together We Grow .

Take a minute to think about the person you were three years ago . What were your priorities ? How did you spend your time ? How did you feel about yourself as a person , as a leader ? For me , I had just returned from a life changing mission trip in Tegucigalpa , Honduras for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . I had recently discovered my passion for nursing and was completing the prerequisite courses to apply for my university ’ s program . I was very uncomfortable in leadership roles and was mostly concerned with building my resume .

Now fast-forward three years . How are your goals different from what they were ? What have you learned that has made you the wiser , stronger person you are today ? Personally , my experiences in my student nurses association ( SNA ) school chapter have helped me change my approach to leadership . I have learned that the personal growth that comes from taking opportunities outside of your comfort zone , is far more important than the new additions to your resume .
Now my question to you is , what will you do as a nursing student to become the future nurse you want to be ? As the Nominating and Elections Committee ( NEC ) Chair , my mission is to seek out , encourage , and assist the most qualified NSNA members in their quest towards serving in leadership positions at the national level of NSNA . The NEC theme for the year is , “ Together We Lead , Together We Grow ,” because we believe that NSNA members across the country can make an impact as they serve in leadership opportunities and transform into the future leaders of the healthcare profession .
The beauty of serving at any level of NSNA is that you have so many resources and opportunities available to you that enable you to develop your leadership skills and contribute your talents . While serving at the local and state levels of NSNA , you might feel a desire or even just a curiosity as to how you could serve in bigger ways . I invite you to embrace this desire and consider what strengths you can bring to the national leadership of NSNA . The roles and responsibilities of the NSNA Board of Directors as well as the NSNA Nominating and Elections Committee are found on the “ How to Run for National Office ” page on the NSNA website at www . nsna . org / howto-run-for-national-office . html
Are you the person who people often look to as a resource of reliable information and guidance ? I recommend you look into the responsibilities of a director of the Board of Directors . Are you a person who listens to and advocates for the concerns of underrepresented populations ? I recommend you check out the responsibilities of the Breakthrough to Nursing Director . Are you passionate about journalism , with a desire to inform others about important issues ? You could be a great candidate for a position as Imprint Editor . Are you an exceptional record keeper with an eye for detail and a knack for efficiency ? You guessed it — the Secretary / Treasurer position would be worth looking into . Are you an effective leader and communicator with an ability to inspire , guide , delegate and mobilize others for action ? Someone who can problem-solve in difficult situations , while maintaining professionalism ?
