and educate NSNA , our state chapters , and local chapters in an effort to grow with these changing times . I know the pandemic has changed what our budgets look like and there will be some adjustments needed to ensure longevity . It ’ s not impossible , it may just take some creativity .
This year , my goals all revolve around education of the fiduciary and secretarial duties these roles entail . I want to help develop a more robust education program for my fellow secretaries and treasurers to give you the tools necessary to take your chapters to the next level . No matter how large or small your finances , you can make an impact – I want to help you make it and even potentially grow .
I want you to know I am here for you . I encourage you to reach out to me at secretary-treasurer @ nsnainc . org if you have any questions or need any resources . If I can ’ t help you , I can get you to the right person .
Andrea Romano Imprint Editor Villanova University Villanova , PA imprinteditor @ nsnainc . org
Hey NSNA members ! I am excited to be your new Imprint Editor and Image of Nursing chair this year . This fall , I will be a rising senior at Villanova University , pursuing my BSN and a minor in Spanish . This summer I have been working as a nurse extern in the Emergency Department at NYU Langone in Manhattan . It ’ s been quite interesting working during these crazy times !
As Imprint Editor , my goal is to continue to publish articles in the magazine that highlight your stories and our collective interests as nursing students . Imprint is a place to read about other extraordinary members and chapters , receive useful career advice from various authors , hear news from the NSNA , and learn about a variety of relevant nursing topics from self-care to COVID-19 . To make Imprint as accessible as ever , we have moved Imprint solely to an online format for this academic year . We hope you are ready to read all about living through this pandemic in this fall issue !
The other themes can be found on the NSNA website under Publications and then under the Imprint tab . I hope some of these themes will inspire you to submit articles . With the new online format , it will be easier than ever to share your published articles with the world ! Additionally , you can also nominate a fellow NSNA member to the Up Close column which highlights exceptional nursing students . You can also submit a piece highlighting your state or chapter activities to the Happenings column . I know many of you have stepped up this year as individuals and as chapters and we would love to hear from you !
The Image of Nursing Committee ’ s theme for this year is , “ The Heart of Healthcare .” My challenge to you is to share through your various platforms all the great things nurses have been up to in the world . From saving COVID-19 patients on the frontlines to standing up for Black Lives Matter , nurses truly have been the reason we are still standing strong . Use the Guidelines for Planning and Tips for Social Media Usage found under the Image of Nursing committee page in order to get started . Remember now more than ever is the time to capitalize on creating content virtually in order to continue member engagement . Please follow the Board of Directors on Facebook under “ NSNA Board of Directors ” and on Instagram under @ nsnabod . Please email me if you guys need any help , from how to submit an article to Imprint to how to get started on creating a school chapter website or Instagram page . My email is imprinteditor @ nsnainc . org . I look forward to hearing from you !
Jaleighya Townsend Breakthrough to Nursing Director Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University Atlanta , GA btndirector @ nsnainc . org
Hello NSNA members . I am excited and honored to be this year ’ s Breakthrough to Nursing ( BTN ) Director . I am currently enrolled at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University in Atlanta , GA pursuing my BSN . I will be graduating in the Spring 2021 .
Due to COVID-19 , I unfortunately was unable to meet you all during the Annual Convention . However , I plan to interact with some of you at the virtual MidYear Conference and the Annual Convention next April .
This year ’ s BTN theme is “ Every Beat Counts .” I have created two goals for the BTN Committee . We are striving to receive seven monthly awards and to increase the applicants for the state award . The monthly awards are derived from the 2019 resolutions and based on different themes that will allow each of you to think creatively when creating projects . On the BTN webpage , there is a wonderful resource that provides instructions , examples of projects and so much more . The BTN toolkit was redesigned and simplified by Lucas Farris , the BTN Director for 2019-2020 . The examples within the toolkit are those submitted by state or school chapter winners . After you have read through the document , if you would like to submit a project to be added to the toolkit , please feel free to contact me at btndirector @ nsnainc . org .
This year ’ s monthly themes are as follows : September : Breaking the Stigma : Sexually Transmitted Diseases ( STDs )/ Sexually Transmitted Infections ( STIs ) October : Maternity Health November : Children ’ s Mental Health Awareness December : Suicide Prevention and Awareness January : LGBTQ + February : Sex Education March : Sexual Health Disparities in Minority Groups
In addition to being on the BTN committee , I am a member of Population and Global Health and the Image of Nursing Committees . These three committees intertwine the core values of NSNA .
During this term , myself and the other board members have to maneuver through the uncertainty that the global pandemic has brought . Thus far , we have come together and conquered each challenge presented . I believe that as BTN Director my term will be filled with more incredible moments of redefining what it means to be in leadership and overcoming boundaries and obstacles .
