This year is going to be a spectacular year ! This Board may have been elected in a nontraditional way through online voting — opposed to the traditional way at Annual Convention — but after getting to meet and talk with these individuals over Zoom , I feel that we all have individual strengths that we can use together and make this year one to remember .
As for the Convention and Program Planning Committee , we are eager to explore more of this new virtual way of life that we have adapted to in this pandemic . We are excited for our themes for both the MidYear Conference and Annual Convention , as they stem from the multiple issues that health professionals and nurses face that possibly affect our health .
I am so excited to meet everyone virtually at the MidYear Conference , and at the Annual Convention in Houston , TX . Please feel free to email me with any questions , comments , or concerns that may arise as this year progresses at directors @ nsnainc . org . Wishing everybody both a spectacular and rewarding school year !
Nikule Abel Director University of Nevada Las Vegas , NV directorw @ nsnainc . org
Greetings my fellow NSNA members , I am humbled and eager to be Director and chair of the Health Policy and Advocacy Committee . Thank you for entrusting me to represent you . . . the future of nursing ! I am currently a first generation student pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Nevada , Las Vegas ( UNLV ). My passion is to care for the terminally ill while being their advocate to live their remaining life in dignity . My dedication and conviction are owed to my beloved family . It Is through them that I have found the drive to live my life with purpose and reach for the stars . At UNLV , I proudly serve as Secretary for the Student Nurses Association along with being a mentor for prenursing students .
Health Policy and Advocacy ’ s framework and foundation is built upon human dignity , social justice , and promoting wellness across all levels of society and life . This year has proven to be a whirlwind of events that will affect many lives for years to come . It is in times like these that we see just how imperative health policy and advocacy is , for the well-being of our community . I am determined to bring the issues of today to the forefront and bring about change !
It is nurses and future nurses who carry the responsibility , to not only influence , but implement practice standards and processes to assure the highest quality of care for every patient . It is my desire to utilize these core principles as chair of the Health Policy and Advocacy committee . The resolutions I choose to focus on correlate to today ’ s issues ; the need for increased education and awareness concerning the need for culturally competent nursing . It is imperative that we , as nurses , are equipped with the knowledge and skill necessary to care for those outside of our own race , religion , or social group .
I am overwhelmed with excitement to begin and provide the stepping stones to use your voice and knowledge to make a change . Our leadership starts now ! Supporting . Leading . Engaging .

Hello NSNA members , we thank you for your continued membership and hope you take advantage of the many benefits of your membership . I am Nick and am honored to be one of the directors . I am delighted to tell you that even though it ’ s certainly not a “ normal ” year , the new Board of Directors is coming together quite nicely and working hard to make sure we adapt and deliver for everyone .
I joined the Army after high school and served for a few years as a Nuclear , Biological , and Chemical operations specialist . I went back to school in 2018 and graduated from Ivy Tech Community College – Richmond , with my ASN / ADN , and a certificate in Global Studies . I have begun a dual degree program at Indiana University – East , for my BSN and a BS in psychology with a minor in neuroscience and will graduate in December 2021 . I am also currently transitioning out of the Board for the Indiana Association of Nursing Students as the community health director and am working on a statewide vaccination project . I will be an ED nurse , beginning my first nursing position soon . My current research interests are post-traumatic stress disorder ( PTSD ) in veteran populations and bioethics . My ultimate goal is to have both adult and psychiatric NP certifications , possibly using the former in an ED , and the latter at the VA , and continuing my research .
I am the chair of the Ethics and Governance committee in addition to serving on the Health Policy and Advocacy , and Image of Nursing Committees . We don ’ t know what will happen in the future , but I can tell you that we are having the MidYear Conference . I ’ m proud to be with you on in the best student nurses organization in the country , and hope that you all get more involved , do well academically , and go get that RN ! I ’ d be glad to talk to anyone if you want to reach out to me at directorn @ nsnainc . org . I hope to see you at our Virtual MidYear Conference !

Hello everyone ! I am thrilled to be serving NSNA as one of the four directors and cannot thank everyone enough for this opportunity . I am Chair of the Membership Committee and seek to ensure that all nursing students are involved , especially during these turbulent times . I wish to maintain and increase membership , as well as increasing the member-retention rate . I also sit on the Population and Global Health Committee and Convention Planning Committee , where I have had the opportunity to form great relationships with my fellow board members . I believe that this year will be amazing for our board and our members !
To tell you a little bit more about myself , I am a rising sophomore at the Pennsylvania State University College of Nursing . I currently serve as the College of Nursing Ambassador in my local association where we work to help introduce and integrate first year students into the college lifestyle as a nursing student . Further , I assist in the coordination of our annual career fair .
I am so beyond excited to share this year with everyone ! Nursing is my passion and I cannot wait to help unite our membership as a nursing community to better the lives of those around us . This year has been hard for many of us , but I hope that in the coming months that NSNA will have a great impact on the community and help shape our future nursing leaders !
