NSNA Changes Amid COVID -19
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , on March 18 , 2020 , NSNA cancelled the 68th Annual Convention that was scheduled to take place April 15-19 , 2020 , in Orlando , FL . All NSNA registrants for the Convention were refunded the full registration fee . Elections for the 2020-2021 Board of Directors and the Nominating and Elections Committee were conducted online . See page 16 to learn more about the newly elected 2020-2021 officials .
On March 22 , 2020 , the NSNA / FNSNA office closed per New York State requirements . The entire NSNA staff worked from home while still available to take phone calls , respond to inquiries , and answer emails . As of July 6 , 2020 , NSNA staff have returned to work in the office .
On March 30 , 2020 , the NSNA Board of Directors issued Guidance for Nursing Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic ; and FAQs for Nursing Students about Practice / Academic Partnerships During the COVID-19 Pandemic .
As in-person meetings got cancelled , NSNA worked on alternatives for opportunities to offer nursing students that would have been present at the Convention . On April 15-16 , 2020 , NSNA offered the NCLEX-RN Mini Review Powered by Lippincott PassPoint as a live webinar . It was presented by Desiree Hensel , PhD , RN , PCNS-BC , CNE , author of Lippincott ’ s Q and A for NCLEX-RN Review . The 7.5-hour online course provided an overview of the detailed test plan and procedures surrounding the administration of the NCLEX-RN ® .
In June 2020 , NSNA announced the NSNA Summer Leadership Conference , originally to be held July 31 st at New York University Langone , New York , NY , was a two-day virtual event . Also , the NSNA 38 th MidYear Conference , originally scheduled to be in San Diego , CA from October 29-31 , 2020 , will now be held virtually .
NSNA Board Meeting Highlights
Following their election , the 2020-2021 NSNA Board of Directors met online on June 2-4 , 2020 . The following actions were taken :
• Accepted / approved the minutes on April 14 and April 18 , 2020 Board of Directors Meeting .
• Accepted reports from the following committees : Finance , Image of Nursing , Health Policy and Advocacy , Membership , Convention Planning , Breakthrough to Nursing , Population and Global Health , and Ethics and Governance .
• Approved the appointment of the 2021 NSNA Resolutions Committee .
• Approved the appointment of the 2020-2021 Imprint reporters .
• Approved to move the next five issues of Imprint online .
• Approved the theme for the 2020 MidYear Conference : “ The Challenge of Change .”
• Approved the theme for the 2021 Annual Convention : “ Breaking Down Barriers .”
• Approved the creation of a new Population and Global Health Committee Edge Award with $ 25 Amazon gift cards to be awarded the quarterly award .
• Approved the current State Convention planning award be expanded to cover the five membership categories with two awards given with each receiving $ 100 award and certificate .
• Approved the NSNA statement : All Lives Matter When Black Lives Matter .
• Approved the appointment of Alexis Hodges as the Council of State Presidents ( COSP ) Planning Committee Chair .
• Approved to move the NSNA Summer Leadership U Conference to be held virtually with registration cost of $ 25 for NSNA Members , $ 20 for groups of fifteen ( 15 ) or more , and $ 50 for Non-Members .
The next 2020-2021 Board of Directors meeting is to be determined .
